Thinking about a New Year and the year I want to create
With just twelve days left of 2018, and Christmas pretty much organised and ready to go, I’ve been starting to think about the coming year. I love to go into a New Year thinking about what I want to achieve, how I want to feel, changes I want to make, goals I want to smash, how I want my life to look. Do you make New Year Resolutions? I tend to set myself goals rather than resolutions, as I always think resolutions are more likely to be broken that goals that are there to work towards. But the basic idea is the same.
A New Year is a great time to take stock of where you are and think about where you want to go. Right now, I’m on the precipice of something – I’m not quite sure what. The last few months have been unsettled, lots of change for me personally as well as a family, and if I’m honest, I’m finding myself feeling a little lost. I feel like I’ve gone off path slightly, let myself be distracted, and not stayed true to myself.
So I find myself with a whole New Year about to begin, and I am spending time really thinking about what it is I want. Where I want to be a year from now – but most importantly, how I want to feel a year from now. I’m reminding myself I have the ability and freedom to create the life I want, that I don’t have to do things because ‘I think I should’, or because it’s what someone else wants. Life is too short to stay stuck, to make do, to let time pass by without being truly happy.
It’s not easy to take time out of a busy life to spend a few days figuring out what it is you want, but it is important – though I do wish I could sneak in a relaxing Cheshire spa break to get away for a couple of days, just me, and figure out what it is I need. That’s not likely to happen this side of the New Year, though a girl can dream. I am, however getting for New Year {with the kiddos}, spending a couple of days with friends by the sea. I think those few days away from reality will be just what I need to clear my head.
While I’m still figuring out the big stuff, there are a few things that are on my resolution/goal list for 2019 already;
* Be more present
* Find my voice
* Enjoy the little things in life
* More family time
* Allow myself to stop from time to time
What is on your New Year Resolution list?
