Spring Picnics
How perfect does that picture look?! One of my favourite things about spring, is that we can start going on picnics again. Well, we’ve been known to have a picnic in the midst of winter, a thermos of hot soup is perfect to warm you up in the middle of a long winters walk! It’s not quite the same though is it?! I love picnics, packing up lots of delicious foods, some blankets, sketchbooks and crayons, and heading off to the woods or down by the river. Those first spring picnics always feel so fantastic, to be sitting and eating outdoors after a long winter.
The kiddos like nothing better than a day spent in the woods, hunting for fairy houses, building dens and bug spotting. Or a day by the river, building dams, fishing nets to see what we can find, skimming stones and paddling toes in still freezing-cold water. We’ve learnt to take more food than you think you’ll need. Lots of blankets for laying on and wrapping up in if it gets chilly. Sketchbooks and pencils for some nature drawing. A jar of homemade chai concentrate and a thermos of boiling water and some teabags for this mama!
What are your favourite picnic foods?
Here are a few of ours {with recipes}:

April 12, 2014 at 10:18I love nothing better than a lazy summer picnic near the river taff, skimming stones and eating yummy homemade food.
We also always pack hummus plus so things to dip in it like cherry tomatoes, carrots, cucumber etc as well olives and roasted peppers.
I love fresh granary bread roll with some brie cheese and cranberry sauce (an almost festive taste during summer :) and some lovely elderflower sparkly water :)
