Review | CLEP Exam preperation from Study.com

As a homeschooling Mum, I’m constantly thinking about what my kids are going to do next – exams, qualifications, college, university… it can be a minefield to figure out just what is the best option for your kids. I’ve been doing more research lately into online options for my eldest, she much prefers independent study and is a fantastic self-motivator when it comes to following online courses.

I was chatting to an American friend, who mentioned the CLEP exams to me. Now, they’re not so well known here in the UK, but there are a few universities that accept them. If you are not aware of what CLEP { College Level Examination Program} is – CLEP exams are prior learning assessments offered by The College Board that allow students to earn real college credit just by passing a test.  They give real college credit at a fraction of the cost of a traditional college or university. They’re perfect if you’re looking for a change of career or just a student who loves independent study.

Study.com have recently launched a fantastic CLEP prep product that has comprehensive study guides and practice tests to help you prepare for these exams. CLEP exams are a perfect option for homeschool families, looking to gain college credits while cutting out some of the associated costs with college or university. I spent a little time having a looking at the CLEP prep product, seeing how it works and how helpful it is.

They have over thirty CLEP courses to choose from – everything from Business Studies t0 Maths to History, so whatever you need to study for, they have you covered. Each course is broken down into chapters, for example, the CLEP Introductory Sociology: Study Guide & Test Prep has 126 lessons to work through at your own pace. The lessons give you a short video to watch, and a lesson transcript to read through, and then a quiz to take on what you have just learned.

I worked through some of the Introduction to Sociology course and was really impressed at the ease of the course to follow, the content contained within the lessons and how helpful it was.  I also asked my eldest daughter to have a look at the site – to get an idea of what a student thought of it. While she is not quite 15, she’s already planning what she wants to study at university, so I thought it would be ideal for her. She said that she found the site really easy to navigate, and the courses easy to follow.  Even on a couple of topics that she hasn’t studied before, once she had watched the lesson video, she was able to answer the quiz with no problems at all.

The comprehensiveness of these CLEP prep courses makes them an ideal basis for studying for the CLEP exams. I have no doubt if you work your way through the courses you’ll be completely prepared for the exams. If you or your children are looking at taking some CLEP exams, then I would definitely recommend the study.com CLEP preparation to you.
