Review & Giveaway || Donna Hay’s Modern Baking
My kiddos and I love to bake. I’ve baked with them since they were tiny tots, and it’s something we do at least once a week, but most likely two or three times. The bigger kiddos love to experiment and try out new recipes. The only hardship is we constantly have a house full of home-baked goodies that have to be eaten!
We were lucky enough to be sent a copy of a gorgeous new baking book – ‘Modern Baking’ by Donna Hay. It is full of over 250 ideas for cakes, cookies, slices, pies, desserts and icy sweets. From quick and easy bakes, to things a little more complicated as well some ‘better-for-you’ treats to keep things balanced!
The book is divided into five chapters – looking five ingredient groups – chocolate; caramel, toffee and coffee; sugar and spice; fruit and berries; milk and cream. Then each chapter is split into three sections – essentials – the must-have recipes, perfect for entertaining, quick-fix recipes for when you don’t have much time, and Fresh and Light for raw treats, and healthier desserts.
There are some amazing sounding recipes – from salted dark chocolate layer cake with milk chocolate ganache to chocolate-coated raw cookies with raspberry and coconut filling, upside-down chocolate, hazelnut and pear cake to peanut butter and caramel fudge you’ll be stuck on which recipe to try first.
Banana bread is my favourite – so I was quick to try out her recipe, and oh my goodness, it was hands down the best banana bread I’ve every made.
If you love to bake, or are looking for a gift idea for someone who does, I’d highly recommend this book – this really will be your new baking bible.
If you’d like to win a copy, you can enter below. To celebrate the launch of her book, Donna Hay will be in Conversation at Fortnum and Mason on the 1st of November – you can find out more about that here.
