Five tips for emotional support when you’re feeling a little fragile

It’s safe to say I’ve been all over the place, emotionally, this week. I’m laughing, then I’m crying, I’m on top of the world, then it all feels like too much. Talking to friends earlier, it’s not just me that’s feeling it this week, though hormonally, I have got a lot going on inside. It’s a bit like the week each month when I’d get terrible PMS – my mood would swing wildly, I’d be irritable and depressed, and not a joy to be around.

I honestly could quite happily curl up in my bed, burrow under the duvet and stay there until the winter has come and gone again. It’s been one of those ‘why do I take on so many things’ kind of weeks… kiddos, a relationship normal life, homeschooling, working, and an Open University course, half the time I don’t know if I am coming or going.

It’s been a week of highs and lows, from some great news, to feeling ridiculously stressed about how broke I am right now. When I’m feeling good, that doesn’t bother me and I know it’ll all work out, but when I’m on an emotional rollercoaster, I lack the rationality to know it will be fine, and I find myself awake at 4 am panicking.

I’m so much more aware of my emotions these days, and how they affect my day to day life, learning to be kind to myself when hormones are dictating my mood, and to find ways to help myself feel better.

These are my top five tips for emotional support

* Take a DIM supplement ~ High Strength Diindolylmethane DIM Complex is a hormone regulating substance {that is naturally found in cruciferous vegetables}, that is fast becoming a popular supplement for helping ease PMS symptoms of irritability, mood swings, tension, depression, aggression, water retention, and breast pain or swelling. DIM restores healthy hormone balance by adjusting the balance of bad estrogens to good estrogens. It may also promote healthy estrogen metabolism, relieve PMS symptoms, fat loss, support healthy breast, cervical, uterine and prostate tissues. Soetik High Strength Diindolylmethane DIM Complex is priced at £18.66 for 90 tablets {recommended dose is 1-3 capsules a day}, it’s an inexpensive way to help relieve those PMS symptons which can wreak havoc with our emotions each month!

* Watch your diet ~ when I’m emotionally all over the place, I make an extra effort to ensure I’m eating a healthy diet. If you’re stressed or upset, it’s easy to reach for the chocolate or the cake, but what your body really needs is lots of whole foods, fruit and veg to nourish it from the inside. It’s only in the last year that I’ve really noticed the effects of what I choose to eat on my mood. That’s not to say a little chocolate is a bad thing when you have PMS – just make sure you’re getting lots of good stuff in too!

Relax ~ don’t force yourself to keep going if you are emotionally fragile, as the likelikhood is you’ll end up feeling even worse. Slow down, drop the unimportant things from your to-do list, do something just for fun – read a book or have a bath

* Talk ~ talking is definitely the best therapy if you’re feeling emoitonal. Call a friend, get the girls round for a girls night in, or at least write it all out in your journal.

Oil support ~ essentials oils can offer a great support for our emotions, my favourites are Frankincense for relieving feelings of grief or emotional trauma, Bergamot for when I’m feeling sad or overwhelmedfeeling sad or overwhelmed and Lemon for relieving my anxiety and lifting my emotions.
