Ending loneliness with Sunrise Senior Living

dinner party

Caught up in a busy life, that’s always full of people and noise, it’s easy sometimes to forget that not everyone is surrounded by family all of the time. Sunrise Senior Living recently got in touch about their campaign for ending loneliness for the elderly, suggesting I hold a dinner party for someone who may be lonely.

Having seen grandparents and neighbours spend far too much time by themselves, it was a campaign that I was more than happy to join in on. They sent me a voucher and some recipe cards {You can download those here} as well as some games to play.

Research from the group Campaign to End Loneliness has shown how detrimental loneliness can be to a person’s health, especially for older people. We really enjoyed our dinner party, making a scrummy Smoked Paprika Chicken dish followed by Spotted Dick and Custard {that was my favourite bit!}

dominoes

We played some dominoes after and a couple of games of ‘Go Fish’. All in all, it was a fun evening – and really, it’s not hard to invite someone to dine with us, someone who otherwise would be sitting alone, wishing for someone to chat to.
