Vega – eight week update!

UM… 8 WEEKS?! Time is flying by, and this little man is growing so fast! He really is the sweetest baby, so very very smiley and chatty now! It’s so cute to hear him chatting away when he’s under his play gym! He has big smiles for his sisters too. I don’t think anything beats baby smiles do they?!

He’s still a very happy, chilled out baby. He loves to sleep, day and night. The past few nights he’s settled around 10ish, with a feed around 12/1 and then up at 7am… perfect. A good night’s sleep for everyone makes such a big difference. He seems to be settling into his own little routine.. he’ll be awake for around 2 hours at a time through the day, and then have a nap… a few little naps and usually a bigger 2/3 hour nap in the afternoon.

Vega 8 WEEKS OLD

We’re still happy breastfeeding, it’s been such a different story with him than with the girls. So easy, and so enjoyable. I’ve always fed on demand and still am doing. I find in the evening he’ll want to cluster feed to fill him up for the night. He has one bottle at his middle of the night feed, as Papa has mostly taken over that one, it leaves me to get a good solid sleep. It works well for us, Papa stays up later than I do normally anyway, and I get up earlier, so this bit of shift/team work is perfect. While I love breastfeeding, and have no plans to stop, I did want to ensure Vega would take a bottle – it means I can do things out of the house with just the girls once in a while if I need to without rushing back or worrying. I’m hopefully getting an electric breast pump this week, so I shall be expressing milk for his night feed rather than using the formula. I did try with the manual pump but haven’t really got on with it, so hopefully the electric one will be more of a success.

I think we’ve finally cracked bathtime, he really wasn’t loving it – but as we’re off to Bluestone in a couple of weeks, and want to be able to do some swimming, I really wanted him to be happy in the water {or at least so he didn’t scream the pool down!}. The past week I’ve made time to give him a bath every night, we have this seat* he lies on in the big bath {I’ve never bothered with baby baths}, I’ve fun the bath a little deeper than we started with so he’s covered to his chest, and a tad warmer too and suddenly he’s happy! Last night I had big smiles while he was splashing around.

Someone asked me the other day how I was coping with four {still seems a little nuts that we have FOUR little people} and honestly, it’s been so much easier than I imagined. So different to having a newborn the past three times. I’m a little older, a little more experienced, a LOT more relaxed and less anxious. ALthough there are three other kiddos, they aren’t so little… they can get themselves dressed and ready to go out, they can get drinks and snacks {for me as well as themselves} and they can amuse themselves. They also all really love helping out with the baby {especially as Kiki has decided nappy changes could earn her some extra pocket money!}. Having lots of children certainly has it’s advantages ;)

Really though, these past eight weeks have been amazing. We’re all so in love with our little guy, and knowing it’s the last newborn I’ll have {SOB} have been just enjoying every single moment of it.

Here’s a little more baby spam for you… just couldn’t help myself!!

Awww he is gorgeous, yes time seems to fly that little bit quicker with each baby…I still get sad at just how quickly my children have grown up. He sounds like a dream, my boys were always harder babies than the girls :)

He is totally adorable and I am so with you about Dads doing a feed in the night meaning that you can get a chunk of sleep. My boys both went swimming from 3 weeks old and I have a couple of tips that might help you. Keeping him warm is the key, which is why he will be happier in a deep bath or with a warm flannel over his tummy in the bath. We used a sit in baby ring, totally godsend when you have more than one child to look after. Also use a reusable nappy, much nicer than those disposable ones and less weight for him.

Ah he’s so gorgeous! Knowing Tiger was probably our last made me never want to put him down. Now I’m struggling to accept I will never have another one. I can imagine with older kids it’s all a bit easier as there are always entertainers / helpers around! I think if we do have another it will be in a couple of years when Cherry and Tiger are a bit less work! x
