Romantic Langkawi – Where to stay and what to do

Tropical islands are made for romance and Langkawi in Malaysia is no exception. With beautiful beaches, glorious sunsets and luxury hotels it’s the perfect spot for a romantic mini-break. It’s easy to get to as well, just a short hour and a half flight from Singapore.
Things to do (apart from chilling by the beach)

1. Bathe in the natural hot springs of Air Hangat Village

Begin your trip by relaxing and rejuvenating at this spa complex, which combines chic modern amenities with rich cultural traditions and history. You can soak in one of the complex’s geo-thermally heated pools – rent your own private one if you’re feeling extravagant!

2. Visit Kilim Karst Geoforest Park

Take a boat tour around this amazing area of mangrove forests, quiet beaches and jaw-dropping limestone formations. Stop for a fresh seafood lunch at Hole in the Wall, a floating restaurant.

3. Take in the View on the Sky Bridge

Travel inland to the foothills of Machincang Mountain and catch a cable car all the way to the top. 700 metres up you’ll find the Sky Bridge, one of the world’s longest curved suspension bridges, where you can look out over the island. After all, there are few things more romantic than a beautiful view.

4. Watch the sunset from your own private yacht

A sunset cruise will take you through the calm waters surrounding Langkawi’s small islands. For the most romantic experience we recommend chartering a private boat with Naam Watersports, who will take you to your own private island for an intimate candlelit dinner.

Where to Stay

Four Seasons Resort – top luxury pick

If you want to splurge for a special occasion go to Langkawi’s Four Seasons Resort, which is out-of-this-world luxurious. It’s part of the well-known chain that has high-end hotels from the Maldives to Macau. You can rent an elegantly decorated beach villa with its own plunge pool and sunken outdoor shower.

The Four Seasons offers four different packages curated just for couples. The ‘romance’ package includes sunset cocktails on the beach, a picnic for two by one of Langkawi’s waterfalls and even a sunset helicopter flight over Langkawi’s southern islands, luxuriant forests and sparkling bays.

The Westin Langkawi Resort and Spa – top mid-range pick

For those of you looking to relax and unwind we suggest The Westin Langkawi Resort. It’s surrounded by serene nature, with its own spectacular private beach, and ideally located a kilometre from Langkawi Harbour.

We chose the Westin because the spa is nothing short of amazing, offering more treatments than anywhere else in Langkawi. We recommend the ‘Heavenly Spa Tentation’, a couple’s massage on the beach, listening to the sounds of the sea and followed by a glass of wine.

Cenang View Hotel – top budget-friendly pick

Who says that romantic vacations have to break the bank? The place we think offers the best compromise between comfort and price is Cenang View Hotel, a modern and comfortable option in the popular Cenang.

You’ll have the use of a peaceful infinity pool overlooking the coast. It’s also only five minutes’ walk from the tourist hub of Cenang Beach, where there are lots of restaurants and taxis to major tourist attractions.
