Planning Your 2021 Home Renovations

We have all been spending much more time at home over the last nine months or so. Although it can be a welcome respite from the busy life that you may normally lead, it can be tough looking at the same four walls day in and day out. As a result you have probably become quite acquainted with all of the little nicks in the home, the flaws that need to be changed, any spotted items that look a little tired and outdated. You might have been thinking about renovating your home, especially if you’ve had some time to think more about it and plan it all out. But is this the right time to start thinking about making changes to your home

With the ongoing pandemic, it can feel like the perfect time to make some changes, before life gets busy and back to normal again. If you are going to be making the changes yourself, then it is something that you will definitely be able to do, providing you will be able to safely get the resources that you need. Some contractors won’t be working, due to things like shielding, but others will be working. There are some projects that will absolutely be essential, such as repairing roofs and leaks. And if a contractor is able to work, then you should be able to get the renovations done that you are planning. In fact, with contractors generally having less work on, they could even quote you a really reasonable price, to secure the work.

Here are some of the things that you need to think about and plan for, when it comes to renovating, redecorating, or making other changes to your home, during a pandemic. It would be great to hear what you think and hear about any of your home plans.

Budgeting

Although there will be people able to carry out the work for you at the moment, if you’re not planning on it yourself, you do have to think about the budget that you have for the project. Have you saved some money over the past year that you have the money upfront and ready to go? Or will you need to save up some cash in order to carry out your plans? Summer can be a good time for renovations, and hopefully things will be looking better pandemic-wise. That is why making plans now, and getting budgeting in place now, could be what you need to get things off the ground down the line. Look at what the going rates are for the plans that you have, and call in some quotes. If you find a price that you’re happy with, then book them in, even if it won’t be happening right away. If you need to save a little more, then you will have some time.

Work out a rough timeline

Having a rough timeline worked out can help as you plan out your renovations or house changes. Even if you are using a contractor, who will often have a timeline of their own, having a clear idea of what you want to and when will help. If you will be doing this yourself, however, then you need to think about your timeline. When ordering things in you need to know when they will be needed by, as well as how long certain tasks will take. If you don’t plan it out well, then you might not have the right amount of time booked off work, for example, and then the project might not get finished off as required. So plan, plan, and plan some more, as you choose what changes you are going to make to the home.

Home upgrades

When it comes to updating your home, there are a number of things that you could choose to do. Something like repainting can be fairly straightforward, but what other options are there? Here are are choices that you could make:

  • Updating the exterior of the home: this could include re-rendering the outside of the home, painting the outside, improving the garden, getting a patio or decking installed in any outside space, or looking into something like awnings for an existing patio.
  • Extending the home is something that can add money, and although a big job, it can be rewarding in a number of ways. Loft conversions, and extension, knocking through to another room, and more, are all things to consider when upgrading the home.
  • Redecorating is another choice that will make a difference. Whether it is a lick of paint, wallpaper, or adding new flooring, it can make your home look and feel like new.
