The Benefits Of Happiness
It’s good to be happy. When we’re happy, everything seems better; life seems lighter and more positive, and nothing is too much trouble. This is something that is important to remember as we go through life, even when it’s hard to – happiness is one of the most important things we can have because it links to so much else including productivity, health, and mental well-being. Here are just some of the main benefits of being happy; it’s time to do what’s good for you.
Better Physical Health
When you’re feeling happy, you are more likely to want to get up and go out, do exercise, eat well, and generally look after yourself. This means your physical health improves (or is maintained). When you are focused on making yourself happy, you will look into all the ways that that can happen, and you will be more inclined to join a gym, take part in an exercise class, or simply get out into nature and walk or run in the fresh air. Your blood pressure will lower, you will sleep better, and your immune system will work harder too.
Plus, when you exercise, your body will create ‘happy hormones’ and chemicals that make you feel great, so the more you exercise the happier you will feel, which leads to more exercise.
Better Mental Health
Although physical health is what most people tend to focus on because it is so immediately obvious, mental health is just as important. The good news is, being happy will have a positive impact on your mental health. Enjoying yourself and being happy reduces the symptoms of stress, anxiety, and depression, for example. Although it is still important to see a medical professional if you are feeling mentally unwell, enjoying the little things in life will help to alleviate some of the problems.
You can start to become happier by making small changes that lead to big results. If your job is making you miserable, it’s time to start looking for a new one, or training to do something more such as teaching, becoming a personal trainer through OriGym, or even learning to run your own business. If it’s finances that stop you from being happy, speak to a debt expert, or create a budget that works for you better than the current way of doing things.
Better Relationships
If you’re unhappy, the people around you who love you and care for you will be unhappy too. They don’t want to see you suffering, and sometimes there is nothing they can do to help, and this will put a strain on your relationships, no matter whether it is a romantic one, a friendship, or a working relationship – if you’re unhappy, so too are the people around you.
If you can focus on the good things in life, you will feel a lot happier, and your change in mood will lighten everyone else’s day. Although you shouldn’t ‘make’ yourself happy just to please other people, this is a great side effect from changing your outlook on life.
