Essential Tips for Self-Care

Nowadays, the quest for living a healthy lifestyle now includes taking better care of your mental health. There is currently a mental health epidemic happening across the globe, which highlights the ever-increasing importance to do what you can to feel your best self. There will be times when this is a struggle, but even the most basic self-care activities can be like a comforting blanket on a cold day. If you are unsure of where to start, there are luckily hundreds of self-care tips you can be inspired by, but there are a few essential ones which you can squeeze into any lifestyle.

Eat food you love

There is a lot of pressure in the modern day to restrict your diet to get the ‘perfect’ body. While eating well is important, eating what you love should also be prioritised. Such foods can be a huge comfort, but they will also satisfy your cravings for unhealthy foods. For example, you can try making healthy but tasty lamb burgers, which are full of nutrients and vitamins, but which are also easy to make with a quick preparation time and low difficulty of cooking.

Make time for yourself

Lots of people feel the need to spend all their time doing what they can for other people. While this is an admirable trait, it means there is no time left for yourself. You might not believe it, but leaving no time to recharge and unwind can in the long term make it harder for you to be a good friend, as you will be short on energy. Ideally, you should make half an hour at least each day to switch off and indulge in something you like. This could be melting into a hot bath, or watching an old film.

Try yoga

Exercise is sometimes the last thing you want to do if you are having a bad day. Unfortunately, it is also one of the best activities you can do if you don’t feel your best. When this happens, try committing to ten minutes of yoga in the morning or the evening. The physical aspect will get endorphins rushing through your body, but the meditation part will keep anxieties at bay. It can also help you to face some difficult emotions in a safe space.

Spend time outside

It is not just small amounts of exercise that can improve your mental health, as being in the great outdoors has numerous benefits to the mind and body. This is sometimes why people decide to take walks in their local park, or move their yoga practice outside. To combine the positive effects of a mini-break and natural scenery, it’s recommended to go on short trips into the countryside to hike through the wilderness. You will come back from these trips with more oxygen in your body, but also feeling refreshed and accomplished. If you want to see a whole new landscape, you could turn this trip into your next vacation abroad.
