World Book Day

frozen fever review

World Book Day is almost here {March 6th} and Baya has been planning her costume for weeks {though I’m not allowed to know what it is!}. Even though my little ones aren’t at school, they still love to dress up – any excuse right!?

World Book Day is a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and of reading. The main aim of the day is to encourage children to explore the pleasures of books and reading by providing them with the opportunity to have a book of their own. We’re a family of book lovers, and could almost start our own library, so it’s hard for me to imagine a house with no books – but there are so many children who don’t grow up in a house with books, where a love of reading is nurtured. There is nothing better than being able to get lost in a book, to visit different worlds and put yourself in someone else’s life for a little while.

Part of the fun of World Book Day is being able to bring the characters out of the book and to life. My kiddos have all loved dressing up and role playing, and it’s so much fun bringing a favourite character to life!

If you’re still struggling to come up with a costume idea, or don’t have time to make one from scratch, there are some truly amazing Rubies costumes available from John Lewis… I’m kind of a little jealous that they don’t go up to my size! There are some great choices available – from the Mad Hatter {which is my favourite} to Harry Potter. I’m sure your kiddo would find one that they love!

You can see some of my favourites, and a few other costume ideas on my Pinterest.
