A family holiday at Bluestone Wales

Last week, the kiddos and I were lucky enough to spend the week at Bluestone Wales. It was a last minute break, which meant, though he tried, G couldn’t get the time off work. So the kiddos and I ventured by ourselves. It was the first time I’ve been on an actual holiday on my own with them… I’ve taken them away to visit family many times, but never for a real holiday – so it felt kinda strange to be heading off and leaving him at home. It also meant that we had to travel by train as I don’t drive.

The journey wasn’t actually too bad – though 5 hours on trains is enough for one day! Thankfully the lovely Claire came to our rescue, and picked us up from the train station and dropped us off by our lodge at Bluestone.

We stayed in a Dinas lodge, a gorgeous 4-bed cabin, with a lovely open plan living area/kitchen and three bathrooms. It’s the same style of lodge as we stayed in last year {you can read that review here}. The lodges are perfect family accommodation for the week… the kitchen has all the basics you need, the beds are very comfy and the shower in my en-suite… let’s just say I had a lot of showers that week!

Last year we had a car with us, so we did a couple of day trips out – one to Tenby and the other to Folly Farm. Carless this year meant we spent the whole week on the park. To be honest, I was a little hesitant we’d find enough to keep us occupied, but it turned out to be perfect. It was actually so nice to have a week without any obligations, no work, no kids groups, no mile long to-do list, that having lazy days when we could just take our time and relax was exactly what we all needed.

After a leisurely breakfast, and me making a picnic lunch ready, we headed to the swimming pool each morning. Our lodge was only a five-minute walk from the Blue Lagoon and the kiddos loved spending time in the pool. Well, Beastie wasn’t too convinced but the girls loved it. The big two spent most of their time on the slides! The pool is great, with plenty to keep everyone happy – from a splash pool for tiny tots, to waves and slides for the big kids. The girls would probably have stayed in the pool all day if I let them.

Tuesday and Thursday turned out to be a bit on the rainy side… so we took ourselves to the adventure centre, where we could eat in the dry and the kids could play some more. They all loved the indoor play area, the girls were fab at taking Beastie off to play and he loved the bouncy castle! The girls also loved playing in the arcade – Kiki and I had a fun game of air hockey!

We also discovered the fab circus room upstairs in the Adventure Centre. Beastie really loved playing in there {so did his sisters}, it was a great space for little kids to play. Kiki and Baya also tried out the Sky Trail and Climbing Wall, both said they were fun but a little scary!

baya and beastie

Wednesday as the nicest day weather wise. After our morning swim, we had a picnic lunch in the village, the kids had a play on the park nd then we took a walk around the lake. We spotted lots of birds, some cute baby ducklings and even a nest full of eggs. Kiki was a little cross she didn’t find a frog {!} but it was lovely to be able to spend the afternoon outside.

All in all, we had an amazing week. It really was just what we needed. None of us wanted to come home, and we’re already talking about what we’ll do next time we visit!

Looked like the kids had a ball and look at Beastie toddling around, such a big boy I bet he wanted to explore everywhere! xx

I think there is definitely enough to do on site without needing to venture off which is great as sometimes when you go away you don’t want to be travelling around. I absolutely love the swimming pool there too, the rapids bit is so fun, and the wave machine. It’s one of our favourite swimming pools! x
