Pinning away my dream home

home decor

When I was a kid – around 8/9/10, one of mine and my best friends favourite things to do on a rainy afternoon was to plan out our dream house. We’d grab the Argos catalogue, give ourselves a budget and pick out all the furniture we would buy for our house. We must have spent so many afternoons creating plans for our future homes. I was browsing Pinterest the other night, adding things to my home decor board, and making mental plans of what I could do in our house and realised that this was a 21st Century version of what I used to do as a kid!!

I love browsing websites, adding things to my wishlists, pick out what I would buy if money were no object. My house has probably been redecorated fifty times {in my head} since we moved in ten months ago. I think it must be a sign of being a grown up that now I spend hours browsing home decor and not fashion….! Or is that just me, I’m home 24/7 and can’t remember the last time I went out after dark, so I have no need of fancy clothes, so instead, I dream about a new dining table {esp as G just accidentally drilled some holes into mine!}. A solid wood table, big enough for the six of us plus a couple of guests.

I could spend hours {and often do} looking at rugs, or new cushions. Figuring out which sideboard I like the most. Searching for the perfect bedding, or just the right lampshade. It’s still just as much fun as it was twenty years ago, a little bit of make-believe, a little bit of wishful thinking. My tastes have definitely changed over the years {I’d have to say for the better}, and age has made me appreciate quality over quantity. We’re slowly working our way around our house and replacing the hand-me-down pieces of furniture we were given, or the things that were bought for us when we were broke newly weds with new pieces that suit our taste a little more. And while I can’t go out and buy it all in one go {oh I wish!}, I can satisfy my urges by pinning madly away!

I’ve several Pintereest boards dedicated to home decor… from a general Interiors one to one just for bathrooms and another for kitchen inspiration. It’s actually fun for me to look back and see how my tastes have changed even in the past couple of years. I think if you’d have told my 10 year old self about Pinterest it would have blown my mind ha! Are you as Pinterest obsessed as me?!
