Lighting the house

After ten months in our new house {wait, how did THAT happen??!} I feel like it’s ‘home’ now. We’ve made our mark, and transformed a blank canvas into our own house. There are still lots of things I want to do, but now the majority of the rooms have been organised {ie. furniture and art on the walls} I’m starting to go back around and change up some other little details. One thing that I’m rethinking is the lighting in the house.

As part of our Live Lagom project, we decided to switch to LED bulbs – they are far more energy efficient, so will save us money, as well as lasting longer than traditional bulbs. We have switched the majority of the bulbs around the house already, but we need some more spotlights {I need to stock up on these from the LED Hut soon}. I’ve noticed a difference already with the bulbs that we have changed, so hopefully changing the remaining bulbs will save us even more money.

The only thing I found with having changed the ceiling light bulbs is that our existing lampshades are a bit small. Because we had to add an adaptor to make them fit our sockets, the bulbs now stick out from the bottom of the lampshades – not a great look {and not kind on your eyes either}!}. Most of the lampshades are existing ones we brought with us from the old house, and to be quite honest, I’m not that fond of most of them anymore. I’ve been looking around and figure that as I’m replacing the lampshades anyway, I may as well replace the whole light fittings to {perfect logic, right?!} I’ve been searching for ceiling lights I love, and really fancy something like the one in the picture – a little bit quirky, and especially for our living room which is quite large, a great central focus for the room. Although with a light like that I’m going to need even more lightbulbs!!

I want to eventually replace most of the shades throughout the house, I’m really struggling to find shades that I like, that are big enough and that don’t brake the bank.
