Why I’m looking at lighting for my next home

I’ve been dreaming of the perfect home for my family for a while now. Where we are may not be perfect but it is home. And home is definitely where my heart is. I love having the kiddos around me and making the most of what space we have. But I always have my eye on trends and styles for interior decoration. And this season looks to be the season of light!

I’ve started to look at more and more choices in home lighting. I’m starting to realise that making changes in my own home could bring more brightness in, even through the dark Welsh winters. Christmas and fairy lights are really heartwarming to have on. And I think it is true that light and colour can help enhance your mood. I’ve always been interested in light therapy for children with difficulties. Seasonal Affective Disorder is something quite close to my heart too.

Where I live, it can be dark until quite late in the morning. It’s still dark when I get out of bed to tend to the kids. That can be quite hard to bear, especially if you’re already tired with the baby. Fairy lights are just bright enough to make it safely across the room, without disturbing the others who are still asleep.

I would love to have a light room in the home. Maybe my next dream home will have a little den we can decorate entirely in fairy lights or LEDs. I’ve been looking at some new lights for this Christmas as well. It seems that LEDs are the cheapest to run. We’ve had some shocking electric bills lately. I guess it’s to be expected when we’re all in the house all day. I’ve been trying to find cheaper energy tariffs from places like Gocollective.com that offer one-off deals. If your timing is right, you can take advantage of a cheap tariff too.

Lighting up the home is fine if you can spare the cash to pay for the energy. Perhaps my next home will have solar panels although I don’t think the sun shines enough sometimes! Cheaper tariffs are definitely key to surviving out here through the winter! We love our fire pit, but we also need to keep the lights on and the heating running at this time of the year. If I owned this home, I would be looking at installing ceiling spot lights. They are very energy efficient and provide a really nice quality of light.

One of the best gadgets I’ve seen is a colour changing lightbulb that you control with your smartphone. I love coloured light, and I think it’s important to light the room for your mood. This seems like one of the best options to do that. They are energy efficient bulbs too, so they shouldn’t cost much to run. The best thing about investing in lightbulbs is that you can take them with you when you move. Ceiling fittings like spotlights and chandeliers are permanent fixtures usually.

I love lights. It can be used for so many things. I think they have a positive effect when they’re right too. See if you can use lighting for therapeutic purposes today.
