Dreaming of my ideal house

I’ve mentioned before that we’re looking to move house this year. I love my house but really we’ve outgrown it, there are just too many of us and not enough rooms!! I’m dreaming of somewhere a little bigger, with a couple more bedrooms, more living space and much more light.

I’m trying to remember that I can’t be too picky, we’ll be renting again {no way we have the deposit for a house}, we’ve been lucky here in that we’ve done a bit of re-decorating to make it more ‘our’ home – mainly involving painting all those magnolia walls white!

The one thing that we haven’t been able to replace is the carpets… we put new flooring down in the kitchen and bathroom, but as it’s not acutally our house, spending the money to replace the carpets through the entire house is just not in our budget.

One thing that would top my wishlist for a new house is wooden flooring. I’m especially in love with this Walnut Flooring – how gorgeous does it look?

We had wooden floors in our last house, and especially when you have small children, having a floor you can easily mop up spillages is so much better than carpet. I’m thinking that in a few months when Vega is starting to eat food {eat or throw it on the floor} wooden floors would be the best – save me hours of carpet scrubbing!

Realistically though, I know I’m unlikely to find the house of my dreams that we can afford to rent. I’m trying to see the bigger picture – look at the space the house offers us as opposed to what the decor is. If there are magnolia walls, then I’ll be buying endless cans of white paint again. And carpets – well, they’ll have to be covered up with rugs unless I can convince the landlord to the benefits of wood floors.

It’s hard as in my heart, I want the house of my dreams, white walls, wooden floors, big windows that flood the rooms with light… and it’s not always easy to give up a dream.

I hear you! We have definitely outgrown our flat since Little E was born. I’d forgotten how much space a baby takes. There’s just too many people and too much stuff. We are lucky here as we live 10 minutes from the beach and the landlord will let us decorate how we please and if we move for the space we need, we will more than likely lose both.

Oh and yes, wooden floors would be lovely!

We are also looking to move but sadly it’s with huge regret, I’ve had the house for nearly 12 years now but we are having to move for school :( Regarding the wooden floors, I do agree, they are easier for food spillages. We have wooden floors throughout the house. I think when we move we’ll go for laminate flooring. Much as it’s not as nice, we’re not managing to look after our wooden floors properly with the dog running on them and children being children. Ours definitely need re-varnishing but I just don’t have the time or inclination to do it.
