Slowing down

These past few months have been crazy. Life is always pretty full on around here, homeschooling and working from home means there is never a quiet moment. Throw in a new baby AND moving house to the mix, and well, really, you’re just asking for trouble!
The last six months have sped by – I can’t believe my tiny baby is almost 7 months old already. They’ve been filled to the brim with work, kiddos, life, moving, more work, holidays, craziness…. and keep going until it feels as though my head may explode!
The past couple of weeks I’ve really felt it, having gotten the house move out of the way, and the new house all unpacked and mostly organised, it’s the first time I’ve had in months to slow down a little.
I realised just how close to burning out I was.
So I made a decision. To slow down.
To allow myself some time to just ‘be’.
To not keep pushing myself to work and work and work.
I’ve spent a couple of weeks getting ahead of myself with work, tying up some loose ends and finishing off a few homeschool projects with the kiddos.
Now we’re planning for a slow summer.
No official ‘homeschool’, as little work as I can get away with.
Lazy mornings. Picnics in the park. Playdates with friends. BBQ’s in the garden.
Our calendar is actually pretty full already for the rest of July and all of August. Full of days out, and visits, and friends, and fun stuff.
And I’m not going to worry if I haven’t checked in online. If my unread emails are mounting up.
I’m planning on enjoying a few weeks of just focusing on having fun with the kiddos. Off saying ‘yes’ instead of ‘no, Mama needs to work’.
I’m so excited – work can wait. This summer is all about family

July 23, 2015 at 19:04I literally could’ve written this. And have actually drafted something similar.. It’s crazy at how time just flies without you realising it amongst the madness. This week I’ve made no effort to be rushing against the clock, no preschool run and the kids seem chilled, I seem more chilled and we’ve managed a few bits of crafting, baking and HE in between. Whether this will be the best way come September, who knows but for now I’m enjoying every minute and taking each day as it comes. Xxx

July 25, 2015 at 01:20I know just what you mean – everything is so busy when your trying to fit in life on top of looking after a baby but mamas are strong and we make it work- so glad you are going to be slowing it down a bit this summer though

July 26, 2015 at 15:47totally know what you mean!! I’m trying to keep going even when I’m feeling a bit like this so that it gives me a bit of breathing space when the baby is born. I’m lucky too that I have childcare though the summer so that certainly helps! I think this is such a great idea for you though, have a wonderful summer! x
