Favourite Pregnancy Books + Apps

While this may be my fourth pregnancy, and I know what to expect, I don’t need a tonne of advice, and I’m just ‘getting on with it’… it’s still nice to indulge a little in a few pregnancy books and apps. There are a couple of my old favourite books, that it’s lovely to re-read {after all, it’s been six years since I was pregnant last!}. This time around, I’ve been enjoying some pregnancy apps that are offer – it’s nice to be able to keep check on just how big little man is each week and what he looks like! These are my favourites..

pregnancy books and apps

1// The Gentle Birth Method. LOVE this book – a month-by-month programme explaining how to rebalance the body and tailor it to the optimum condition for the birthing process. I don’t follow it totally, but use it as a general guideline :)

2// Gentle Birth, Gentle Mothering. A great ‘pro-natural’ birth book… the author is an advocate of natural childbirth.

3// French Children Don’t Throw Food. I first read this a couple of years ago, and thought it was great. Lots of ‘no-nonsense’ advice, it’s a great read for parents-to-be or already parents!

4// Sprout Love how this app looks. I love that it shows what baby looks like each week. Also has doctors advice, a kick counter, weight gain tracker and contraction timer!

5// The Bump. Great app – I especially love the feature that shows how big baby is compared to fruit/veg!

6// Honest – really more of an after baby is here app, but it was recommended to me, I checked it out and loved it! The honest company seems amazing too!

7// BabyCenter. Great pregnancy app, sends a weekly update on what to expect that week, as well as info about your body, milestones and baby’s growth each week.

8// Yoga for Pregnancy. I’ve been testing this out over the past few weeks, and it’s a fantastic app. Designed for pregnant mama’s who have or haven’t practised yoga before, it shows you postures that help to keep you active during pregnancy, as well as breathing techniques for pregnancy/labour.

What are your favourite pregnancy books or apps? If you are looking for a great website full of pregnancy, birth and parenting tips have you looked at BellyBelly? It’s an Austrailian site but full of great articles and lots of great information.

It’s been a while since I was pregnant. At that time, I didn’t really use apps but it is great to see that there are some good ones out there. I used to enjoy reading the pregnancy magazines. I think the huge, ‘I’m Pregnant!’ magazine was a good one.

It’s been a while since I was pregnant and can’t remember a single baby book I read apart from the one the midwife gave me!

MY husband thinks it’s pretty funny to think of the baby in terms of a fruit :p

I used the babycentre app. I am the more organised on ein our relationship and my wife loved me reciting the updates from the app to her about how big baby had grown and what was happening inside.

I’d love to know what’s inside the cover of “French babies don’t throw food”.
Sounds hilarious but I can well believe they don’t.
My Aaron when he was about 2 years old threw a fork at a breastfeeding lady in the cafe in the London Transport Museum. She looked horrified, she might even have been French, but was tickled me, is I could tell she had NO IDEA that the serene babe in her arms would one day be a toddler LOL.
I am so glad that you say it is 6 years since you have been pregnant as it gives me hope. As Aaron is 4 years and 3 months and we are still TTC.

I didn’t have a smart phone when I was pregnant so I didn’t do all the apps. When I was pregnant the first time I was given a really old book with some really bizarre advice in it and I think that must have put me any others.

I didn’t realise there were so many options! I wish I’d have heard of some of these when I was pregnant

I admit I didn’t buy any pregnancy books for either of my pregnancies. I subscribed to weekly email updates from BabyCentre, but that was about it. I like the sound of the ‘French Children Don’t Throw Food’ book though – it’s a great title for a book!

I’m currently sorting through all our books and I found all the books I’d bought through the different pregnancies. It made me a feel a little broody!

These all sound great- the French book made me chuckle- is it by the same person who wrote ‘why French women are skinny’ or something along those lines?! I’m not there yet- but hopefully will be one day soon so I’ll bookmark your post for future reference! X

Believe it or not, I was so much in denial that Maxi would actually be born after a n umber of late miscarriages that I never read any pregnancy or baby books!
