Beauty: Face and Body care in Pregnancy

Pregnancy can take it’s toll on your body and face. There’s the obvious stretching of skin on your tummy, as well as all those extra hormones that can make your skin break out, feel dry or greasy, and just leave you feeling less than your best. Spending a little extra time on yourself during this time can really help you relax and feel good about yourself. Pregnancy is such a special time. Soak up every minute and don’t forget to give yourself a little extra love.

For my body, I got sent a selection of NSPA Mum-to-be products to test out. First off – they smell amazing! I’ve been rubbing the moisturising bump butter into my tummy every morning and it makes my skin feel so soft and silky. As my skin is stretching over the growing baby, it can feel really tight and this has really helped it feel less ‘stretched’. I’ve been using the stretch mark oil on my tummy after a bath or shower too.

The cooling leg/foot gel has been fantastic. At the end of the day my feet and calves really ache, and this is lovely and reliving to rub into them, especially when my calves feel tight and crampy. Taking a few extra minutes out of my time to pamper my body makes such a difference to how I feel. The scents of all of these products is so uplifting it makes me happy when I’m massaging them into my tummy too. The breast cream and nipple cream my girls fall about giggling…. they thought they very idea hilarious! As a mama I know how important those items are though, gotta look after those boobies ;)

I’ve experienced more hormonal break-outs on my face this time around, so it’s really important to me to have make sure my face is really clean morning and night. I’m also aware that I’m not {quite} as young as I used to be, and often my skin feels a little tight and dull. This body shop pomegranate range may just be my new favourite. The softening cleanser removes all my make-up/dirt off my face and leaves my skin feeling soft and lovely. It also has anti-ageing and skin-brightening properties too. I’ve also been trying out the firming serum. After using it for a week, my skin is definitely brighter, and feels firmer and softer too.

What are your essential face or body care items?

Ooh I love a pregnancy pamper. I’m totally with you on the lotions and potions – my dressing table is positively heaving with lots of lovely oils and creams and I make sure I have at least 5 minutes to smother myself in them every morning and night. It really does make a difference to how you feel about yourself and can give a much needed boost. x

I used to use cocoa butter religiously when I was pregnant. Nowadays I rarely have time to do anything other than my facial moisturiser. Having time to pamper myself is a real luxury.

My wife swears by coconut oil. We made it a ritual during pregnancy that I would rub some sort of lotion into her swollen body and talk to to the bump at the same time. Id recommend it to all Dads.

When I was pregnant I had a selection of nipple creams and perineum oil on my bathroom shelf, visitors using the toilet must have found it rather amusing! x

I’m a coconut girl through & through. I used it as a make-up remover, cleanser, and moisturiser – morning & night. It’s also a fab lip-balm. I like the look of that pomegranate serum though & if your amazing skin is anything to go buy, then it’s amazing!

I had a vanilla butter cream from the body shop that someone bought me when I was pregnant and I used it every day. Now whenever I smell it it takes me right back to being pregnant 14 years ago!
