Lavender Bags – Kid friendly craft

lavenderbags

Lavender bags have long been a great gift idea. Pretty and useful and they smell wonderful too. The girls and I collected some lavender, and set about making a stack to give as gifts. With a little help, these are simple enough for kiddos to make themselves. It’s a great introduction to using a sewing machine.

My girls are always happy to have an excuse to raid my fabric stash! They selected some fabrics they like {this is a great project for using up scraps} and cut rectangles out, approx 6″ by 3″ though you can make them as big or small as you like.

Fold them in half, so the right sides are on the inside, and sew around the three edges – being sure to leave about an inch unsewn so you can fill it!

Turn them the right way out, pushing all the corners out.

Fill with lavender, and then sew the hole shut. {Note. We used yellow thread on the sewing machine, as it was easier for the girls to see what they were doing! If I was sewing, I’d use a contrasting colour so it blended in}

Wrap a stack of three with some string to make a pretty gift – grandparents would love these!
