A dream weekend getaway to Frankfurt

If the craziness of the run-up to Christmas is getting a bit much, then maybe it’s time to sneak in a weekend away? A pre-Christmas mini-break is a perfect way to recharge your batteries, and if you pick the right place, leave you feeling even more festive! While there is plenty of fantastic city breaks to be had in the UK, why not take this opportunity to escape a little further afield and enjoy a European City break? One city that I would love to visit is Frankfurt.

Frankfurt is a beautiful city, especially on a cold winters day. It is the fifth largest city in Germany and is full of wonderful things to do to fill your weekend up with. It can get very chilly due to the winds blowing in from the Baltic Sea, so you’ll want to ensure you have plenty of layers to keep cosy!

I can imagine a wonderful weekend, seeing the sights and soaking up some of the culture, walking hand in hand with my love. While there are an array of hotels to choose from, why not opt for a little more privacy and freedom and look at these serviced Apartments in Frankfurt? Centrally located, they look like the perfect base for a winter getaway.

Here are a few of the things that are on my ‘to-do’ list for a weekend in Frankfurt

* Visit the Christmas Market

One of the oldest Christmas markets – and largest, it covers an area around Römerberg square, Paulsplatz, and Mainkai, set amongst beautiful old houses and historic churches WIth over 200 stalls you’ll leave feeling more festive than ever.

* Go Ice-Skating

What is more wintery than ice-skating? Visit the Eissporthalle and try out one of their four rinks.

* Ride the Ebbelwoi Express

An hour long, historical tram ride that will take you past many sights in the city centre. You can also enjoy some apple juice and cider whilst riding.

* Get in some Christmas Shopping

If you still are on the lookout for some gifts, then head down to the Zeil district which is home to many different shops and international designer brands.

* Listen to the Pealing of the Bells

Every day at 5pm, 10 churches in the centre of Frankfurt ring their bells 50 times for half an hour. Definity something to catch while you’re there.

* Warm up in the PalmenGarten.

If you’ve gotten a bit chilly walking around the city, a visit to the greenhauses at PalmenGarten will leave you toasty warm!
