A festive weekend in Liverpool
A couple of winters ago, we spent a weekend just before Christmas in Liverpool, soaking up the festive atmosphere in a big city, seeing the lights, doing a little shopping, eating some delicious food and exploring the area. It was such a wonderful weekend that we’re planning on doing it again.
Liverpool is our closest city, less than an hours drive away, though we often go on the train as it’s so easy to do {and avoids city parking!}. We love it, as compared to the small town where we live it seems HUGE but in comparison to a lot of cities, it is actually quite small – which means it’s the perfect spot for a mini-break as it is easy to get around, and everything is fairly close together.
Liverpool is such a vibrant city, especially when it is Christmas time – we love spending time there as there is something for everyone. Liverpool ONE is one of our favourite haunts, the kiddos all have their favourite shops to visit and we could {and often do} spend all day long there.
If you haven’t been to Liverpool before, then it should definitely be a city you add to your ‘must visit’ list – here are a few of our favourite places to visit while we’re there;
Shopping
With some big name shops that we don’t have in our home town, my shopping addict of a tween LOVES a trip to Liverpool!
Disney Shop ~ the little ones LOVE looking around the Disney Shop!
Lego Shop ~ again, my littlie’s love it and they have some play areas set up so it’s a great distraction for toddlers who have had enough shopping
New Look & Miss Selfridges ~ two shops that my tween loves to visit
John Lewis ~ I love to pop in here for a browse at the gorgeous homewares!
Debenhams ~ we usually end up at the make up counters whilst here
Places to Eat
There are SO many great places to eat in Liverpool, you’ll be spoilt for choice!
MooBoo ~ it’s rare we go to Liverpool and don’t get a bubble tea!
Las Iguanas ~ I love the food here, though my littles aren’t so keen, so I don’t get to go as often a I’d like.
Yo Sushi! ~ the kids just love the food going around on the conveyer belt I think!
TGI Firday’s ~ a good, suit all the family kinda place – perfect for a quick pit stop mid-shopping trip.
Places to visit
Liverpool isn’t short on culture – there is so much to see and do, and always something fun going on.
TATE Liverpool ~ I could happily spend all day in here. Right now, I can’t wait to go see the Fernand Léger exhibition.
World Musuem ~ if you have a dinosaur lover then this is a must visit!
Mattel Play! ~ If the tots need a break from shopping and culture, and Mama needs to rest her legs for five minutes, stop off for a little soft play fun.
The Beatles Story ~ you can’t visit Liverpool without paying homage to the Fab Four!
Festive Fun
If you’re looking to get into the festive mood, Liverpool has you covered
Christmas Ice Festival ~ the perfect festive day out with a large ice rink, thrilling rides, Christmas stalls, and German style bars
Christmas Markets ~ festive style cabins offer the perfect opportunity for some seasonal shopping {and a glass of mulled wine!}
Bar Hütte ~ Set under the Liverpool ONE Christmas tree, this alpine themed bar offers hot and cold drinks – perfect to get in the mood for the upcoming holidays.
