Monthly Mindfulness Challenge – January

With the rain pounding on the windows, and the wind howling around, it is warm and cosy in my home. I’m in a phase of turning inwards, slowing down with the season, focusing on rest and recuperation. This month’s mindfulness challenge is perfect for these dark winter days.

Candle Staring Exercise

Find {or buy} a nice candle. Now, I love candles and have rather a lot – but I’ll always take an excuse to buy more!!!

Now, wait until it is dark and find some space just for you. I like to curl up in my bedroom or the living room if there are no small people running around. You can sit in silence, or put some quiet music on in the background {I love this playlist for moments like this}.

Light the candle, and turn the lights off. sit comfortably and just gaze at the candle flame for around 10 minutes. Let yourself focus fully on the candle. If your mind wanders, just gently bring your awareness back to the candle flame.

This is a wonderful exercise to do whenever you are feeling stressed or overwhelmed, as it can help to bring some quiet focus to your mind.
