4 Childrens Books we’re loving right now

I love snuggling up with my little kiddos, and reading a good book. We’ve bookshelves full of old favourites, but I am always on the look out for some new childrens books to add into the mix. I love books that capture the kid’s attention and imagination, that have a good message behind them, that talk about feelings and diversity, that are fun to read and we all enjoy.

I also love books that make us giggle whilst learning something new! THese are four recent finds that we’ve loved, and I wanted to share with you.

The Art of Words

Beastie loved this book! It’s an interactive story all about the magic of words. The beautiful illustrations show a boy and girl {and their dog} reading, relaxing, and climbing as they stretch, colour, squash and sew words together to mirror their meanings. It’s a really fun read, that engages little ones and fills them with the joy of creating stories from words.

Upside Down Fridays

This is a great book for kiddos who struggle with change – very relevant right now! In the book, Hugo doesnt like Fridays because that’s the day that his routine changes. This makes him feel nervous, and unsettled. The story shows how he discovers that change can be fun through the power of friendship. It’s a wonderful book to use to talk to your kiddos about change, and how it makes them feel.

Wild

I loved the sound of this one, being the Mama of two small boys. It gives a little insight into gang culture and toxic masculinity, shown through the eyes of two young brothers. It’s a wonderful way to talk about peer pressure, and how it encourages kids to join in to be popular. We loved reading this, and had conversations about how we don’t have to fit in, and how we can be true to ourselves.

Funny Bums, Freaky Beaks

Both boys LOVED this book. Oren because it was full of animals, Beastie becasue it was full of bottoms. It kept us occupied for ages, reading about all the strange and wonderful creatures – there were lots of giggles to be had! It’s a great book to introduce the idea that it’s good to be different, and we are all strange and unique in our own way.
