Letting go with Autumn

An early morning run, when the sun was just coming up and there was a haze in the air reminded me of the beauty of Autumn. It’s a season that always makes me feel so much, it resonates with me and feels like coming home.

With the falling of the leaves, I remember the beauty of new beginnings and the power of letting go. Autumn is the perfect time to clear out – both physically and mentally. With the coming winter, when we spend more time indoors it is the perfect time to have a little cleanse.

Listening to the earth, and following her lead will teach us so much if we let them. Watching the natural rhythm of the seasons can show you how to live.

Autumn encourages us to let go of what is no longer serving us, reminds us it is ok to grieve for what we release, but reminds us that we are making space ready for new growth to fill after the winter.

Let go of clutter

One place I always start is in my home. As the time of year comes when we start to spend more time indoors, I like to clear out the clutter that has accumulated over the summer. Let go of the piles of junk, the books you’ve read and won’t read again, things that don’t feel like ‘you’ any longer. Less clutter means a more peaceful environment for you to relax in.

Let go of old thoughts

A mental declutter is just as important as a physical one. I like to spend some time with my journal, writing down thoughts and beliefs and then really questioning them. Do I still believe that? Is that still true? It’s easy to get stuck in old thought patterns that don’t have our best interests at heart. Take some time to wade through your old thoughts and let go of the ones that are no longer true for you.

Let go of the need to fit in

Fitting in is overrated. Why do we have this urge to be just like everyone else? Stop worrying about what everyone else thinks and just be you. Live life your way, do what suits you, not what everyone else is doing. You aren’t here to make other people happy at the expense of your own happiness. Dare to be different. Find your own path.

Let go of negativitiy

Negativity around us only serves to bring us down. Spend your time with positive people, fill your life with positive stories. What you focus on is what you will see. Choose people and things that fill you up, that inspire you, that urge you on – not ones that critise and bring you down.

Let go of the need for control

So much of our anxiety and depression is rooted in our need to control life. We feel powerless and fight to keep order and in control. When we surrender to a higher power, we see the beauty in going with the flow. We can have dreams and goals, but not a set path. Be open and receptive and see what life has to offer and where it will take you when you believe. There is no right or wrong – there is only truth. Life your truth and discover it.
