My favourite five Essential Oils I use for my family

essential oils for the family

I’ve used Essential Oils for years and years since I was a teenager. Over the years I’ve slowly started using them for more and more things – not just Tea Tree to clear up teenage pimples, but oils to help me sleep, to soothe my children, to address health issues, to help me to relax and reduce my anxiety, as well as to clean my house.

These are my five top oils – ones that I always have on hand, and that gets used daily in my home and with my family;

* LAVENDER ~ Having been used for centuries, Lavender Oil has many uses. Topically it can help skin rashes, acne, insect bites and minor burns. It is also a good disinfectant for cuts and scrapes. A few drops in your bath helps you to sleep better, and rubbed onto your forehead and temples it can alleviate headaches.

* CHAMOMILE ~ used since Roman times, chamomile tea is well known to soothe nerves. Typically the oil is used to treat boils, dry skin/eczema, bee and wasp stings, cuts and bruises. Diffused around the house it can calm children, alleviate insomnia, stress and anxiety, and depression.

* MELALEUCA {TEA TREE} ~definitely one of the most useful oils to have in your kit. Topically it is used to treat athlete’s foot, dermatitis/eczema, acne, cold sores, nail fungus, warts, insect bites and many more! Added to unscented shampoo it can treat head lice. It also makes a great disinfectant spray to use around the house.

* FRANKINCENSE ~ One of my personal favourites. Topically it is used for acne, warts, cuts and scrapes (it’s a great disinfectant), scar tissue, insect bites. I diffuse it to reduce stress levels, lift my mood, quell my anxiety and help me sleep better. In some people, it helps ease migraines.

* LEMON ~ fantastic for home cleaning, I add to white vinegar to make a great surface cleaner. It is also fantastic to diffuse for it can purify the air and help you to reset and recharge. It’s one of my favourites to use in a diffuser blend in the morning’s to get us all feeling wide awake!
