First-time parents often realize that getting a good night’s sleep will not be possible for the first few months of their little one’s life. There are things that parents can do to better the chances of their little one sleeping throughout the night. The following guide provides a few tips that parents can use to get more consistent sleep at night.

Create a Comfortable Sleeping Environment for Your Baby

There are many parents who think that having their baby sleep in the bed with them is the best option but creating a comfortable sleeping environment for your baby may be a better option. Choose a comfortable baby mattress for your little one to sleep on, you want to be sure the that it provides ample lumbar support and is easy to clean if a diaper leaks in it. You also want to be sure that the room is dark and quiet if they are going to be able to rest soundly.

Ensure Your Baby Has the Right Diapers On

It is best to place your baby in diapers that will absorb everything throughout the night. Leaky diapers or diapers that do not pull moisture away from the baby’s skin can cause them to wake up. You need to be sure that the diapers fit well and are secure so that they don’t move around as the baby sleeps.

Massage Your Baby Before Bedtime

Give your baby a gentle massage before bedtime to help them start to relax and calm them. Use lavender scented lotion to help ease them into sleep. Lavender has been shown to promote calmness and peace, which may be exactly what your little one needs to fall asleep quickly and easily.

Create a Sleep Schedule

It’s best to create a sleep schedule for your child so that their body can adjust to sleeping throughout the night. Your little one may need two naps throughout the day and to go to bed at a reasonable time at night. When your baby takes a nap when you are home, consider going into a dark room and taking a nap at the same time. This can make it easier for you to be able to get the rest that you need too. It will take time until your baby will adjust to the schedule and start sleeping throughout the night you need to be patient and allow your baby to adjust on their own time.

Keep a Log of Your Baby’s Sleep

It’s important to take the time to keep a log of your baby’s sleep. You can then show your child’s pediatrician the log to determine if there is anything that is out of the ordinary or anything that they can suggest you do to help your baby be able to develop a regular sleep schedule. Being able to give the doctor specific information can help them to determine if your child has an issue that may arise at night-time that needs to be dealt with.

Eventually, your baby will sleep through the night. You will be able to get a good night’s sleep as well, but it will take time. It is best to put a baby monitor with a camera in your child’s room so that you can monitor their sleep and view them to make sure that they are sleeping in a safe sleep position.
