Review || Project Mc2 Ultimate Spy Bag

I’ve talked before about our love for Project Mc2. While my girls don’t watch much TV, when they do, this is one show I encourage them to watch. A show that encourages girls to love S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths).

My middle two girls love watching it, and are always inspired by the adventures of the spies on the show! So Miss Baya was very excited to get her very own Project Mc2 Ultimate Spy Bag to test out! We’ve tried a few of the Project Mc2 kits and have always been very impressed – they’re fun but educational too.

The kit is a great introduction to the world of forensics ~ the use of science to investigate crimes and analyse evidence. The bag is just like the one that Adrienne Atoms uses in the show and at a glance, it looks like a pretty bag with lipsticks and face powder – Baya loved that everything was disguised! The face powder doubles as fingerprint dusting powder with a magnifier hidden in its lid, the perfume bottle is really an air blower, the lipstick is a secret message launcer and the nail varnish is a torch! Here’s a whole list of everything in the bag:

  • dusting powder which doubles as a shimmer powder
  • Perfume “bottle” that is used as a blower for fingerprinting activity
  • Adrienne Attom’s top secret spy guide
  • Fingerprint testing paper
  • 2 test tubes
  • 2 beakers
  • nail polish (which is really a torch)
  • makeup compact with a powder puff, mirror and magnifying glass
  • lipstick (which is really a  message launcher)
  • the bag also has some little drawers for other things a spy might need in her job

The fingerprint kit is great for learning more about forensic science – you learn how investigators use scientific methods to investigate crime and analyse evidence. This was the first experiment Baya did – dusting a glass with the dusting powder and using some tape to lift the fingerprints off. She was thrilled that it worked, and put the fingerprint we had collected onto one fo the evidence cards to keep.

The beakers and test tubes are also great things to have in the house to further do Chemistry and biology experiments.  You do need to provide the materials for these experiments though as they do not come with the set, they were generally storecupboard items though – such as oil, food colouring and effervescent tablets.

It’s a great fun kit, perfect for encouraging girls to enjoy science – Baya really enjoyed all of the experiments! Priced at £39.99, it might not be the cheapest of toys but I think it is well worth it. Not only because it is putting across the idea of forensics and fingerprinting, but also giving kids the opportunity to put their imaginations to the test and be a secret agent!
