5 Inexpensive Remodelling Ideas to Increase the Value of Your Home

Not all remodelling projects have to be super expensive. There are ways to boost the value of your home by only making a few small but significant changes. In fact, it is recommended that you check the boxes on at least a few of them, especially if you are planning to sell your house anytime soon. Even if you don’t have any plans to sell your house, it will still benefit from the following ideas.

The Kitchen

Remodelling the kitchen is usually no cheap affair, but we are talking about subtle changes here that will uplift the mood of the place without breaking the bank. Find out if any of the smaller parts and accessories would benefit from being replaced or repaired. This includes the kitchen taps, cabinet door handles, and even the lighting. A set of new, matching taps, cabinet door handles, newly painted cabinet doors, and bright intelligent lighting can do wonders for your kitchen aesthetically.

The Bathroom

The bathroom can also be improved on a budget and it starts with making sure that everything you already have is in peak condition. Replace chipped tiles and have the entire bathroom cleaned professionally. Changing the toilet seat and the pedestal sink is probably a good idea in most cases. If you have washed out floor tiles, a sheet of vinyl right on top of old discoloured  tiles is a much cheaper alternative than removing the old material and putting in a new floor.

Windows

A lot of people often forget the importance of windows in a home, but they are one of the first things people will notice about your home even before they step inside. While replacing windows is a costly and time-consuming project, putting a fresh coat of paint on the frames and adding some very useful window openers is not nearly as expensive. Also, clean the windows and, if necessary, replace any cracked, broken or irreparably tainted window glass.

Carpets

Unless your carpets are falling apart, there is no need to replace them, but a good cleaning service might do wonders for those old rugs. To hide any tears or distressed spots, you will need to find matching area rugs that are cheap and do a pretty good job of covering up weak spots.

Lighting

Lighting is all-important whether you are planning to sell the house or simply spice things up a bit. The best part about changing the lights is that it will almost always have one of the most profound effects on your remodelling plans, in spite of being so affordable. If you have low-powered lights, opt for bright ones; if they are too bright, change the mood by installing a few dimmer sources. A chandelier or two, strategically placed bed lamps, mood lighting and dimmer switches are all excellent ideas. Spend some time in planning your lighting theme and do it one room at a time to both save money and for making the project more fruitful.

A rule of the thumb to follow while remodelling on a budget is prioritizing repairs, add-ons and paint jobs above replacement. Replacement should be reserved for accessories. The key is in taking the time to figure out what you can do with the money that you have and then make the best of it.
