Review | Vax Steam Fresh Power Plus Steam Cleaner

With Spring finally here, I’ve been a busy bee doing a spot of spring cleaning. It feels good to clean all those nooks and crannies that have been missed over the winter. While I’m really glad to have tiles in our kitchen & utility {after six years of having a carpet under our dining table it’s SO good to be able to wipe up spills instead of scrubbing a carpet}, mopping every night was a chore I didn’t enjoy. For one thing, mopping leaves our tiles REALLY slippery and dangerous, so I can only mop once the kids are in bed {and by that point housework is not what I feel like doing!}

A friend mentioned they had a steam cleaner, and after a little bit of research it sounded like just what we needed. After looking at several different ones, we were offered this Vax Steam Fresh Power Plus Steam Cleaner to test out.

A multifunction steam mop with handheld and reach wand that uses steam and detergent to break down grease and grime faster than steam alone and leave your home smelling fresh. Plus, the added benefit of 360-degree steam tools mean no place is too hard to reach.

One thing that really sold this to me was that unlike some models, you can add detergent to this one – giving it extra power to lift ground in dirt. Our downstairs gets quite messy – with a toddler dropping food, six people in and out all day plus two cats, by the end of the day it’s pretty dirty. The steam cleaner is shaped to make sure you can easily get into all of the corners, and has a microfibre pad to collect any dirt/hair/debris that we’ve missed when sweeping.

I always feel with mopping that I’m just moving dirty water around the room – this uses a constant supply of fresh water so you’re sure that the floor really is clean when you’ve finished. It’s easy to use and has four settings – low steam, high steam, then low steam with detergent and high steam with detergent. I found it made cleaning the floor so much less time consuming. It’s light to push around, gets into the corners, I don’t have to cart a heavy bucket of water around with me and it doesn’t leave the floor soaking whet {and thus slippery}. I no longer dread mopping every night, and becasue it doesn’t leave the floor slippery, I can even use it in the daytime if the floor is really dirty or we’ve spilt something.

The steam cleaner also comes with a soft brush – perfect for scrubbing tiles or the skirting boards, and also a precision nozzle which is great for blasting dirty grouting. The 360-degree head also means that you can reach into tight spots – such as behind taps, hinges and even behind the toilets. I also gave the tiles a quick going over with the micro pad – great for super sparkling surfaces!

I’m really impressed with the cleaner, it cuts out the need for so many chemicals as the steam is powerful enough to loosen grease and dirt easily and without lots of arm-aching srubbing. I’ve relaly no excuse know to have a dirty house!
