Who Ya Gonna Call? Important Numbers to Have in Your Contacts
It’s
A Plumber
You might need a plumber to fix a range of things in your home. Some will be emergencies but a lot of the time it will be routine. Maybe the toilet tank isn’t filling properly or there’s a drip in one of your taps. A plumber is the sort of service you want to test out before you have an emergency, although you won’t always get the chance to. But you can find someone you think will be there for you when you need them. Look for a plumber with excellent reviews, especially for emergency call-outs. You could start by asking family and friends if they can recommend anyone.
A Boiler Engineer
Your boiler is essential to supply you with hot water and keep your home warm. If it breaks, it can be a disaster. You should have an engineer you trust in your contacts because your boiler should be serviced once a year. Servicing it helps to keep you safe from dangers such as carbon monoxide poisoning. If you have a boiler engineer who comes to check your gas lines, you’ll have someone you can call out in an emergency too. When you need a boiler repair carried out, you know there is someone you can call who you trust.
An Electrician
All sorts of things can go wrong with your electrics. Most of us don’t have much of a clue about how to fix anything beyond checking the fuse box. If something in your electrics has gone haywire, you’re going to need an electrician. A lot of things might not be emergencies. It can wait if one of your plug sockets isn’t working or you can’t turn on a light in one room. But there can be some situations that are dangerous or hugely inconvenient. So make sure you know who to call if you need an electrician.
Non-emergency Service Numbers
We all know the emergency number if we need an ambulance, the police, or the fire brigade. But what a lot of us aren’t very good at is knowing when we don’t need to use it. For example, if a crime isn’t currently taking place, you don’t need to use 999 to call the police. It’s a good idea to remember the non-emergency numbers too. You should call 101 for the police in a non-emergency situation. Calling 111 will get you an NHS advisor if you’re not sure which medical services to use.
Having some important phone numbers in your contacts can save you a lot of time and panic. Be prepared for anything and you’ll be able to handle any situation in your home.
