The Power of Colour

Colour plays a huge part in our lives, whether we think it does or not. Our children are great examples of this. How many of your children have a favourite colour?? Does your little girl insist that everything she owns is pink? Would your little boy be happy with a pink scooter?

Kiki went through a phase of absolutely loving yellow. She wanted everything she wore, owned, played with or ate off to be yellow. Yellow to me suggests sunshine, happiness and calm. If you walk through the shops, you see a huge difference in items marketed for girls and boys. Girls things tend to be pink and lilac, boys apparently prefer blue and maybe green. Children know what they like, and are not always easily swayed – hence many Mums and Dads searching the shops to find the desired item in the correct colour!

Even as adults, a lot of the choices we make and products that we decide to buy are influenced by their colour. The Times have even done an investigation that showed that products aimed at women are more expensive! I’m as guilty as anyone else at judging an item by its colour, certain colours hold different connotations that we place onto the item. Certain colours will catch my eye as I’m walking around the shops – and items in my favourite colours are far more likely to find their way into my basket.

4imprint have produced this interesting infographic, looking at the power colour holds when it comes to products. It’s a fascinating insight into how colour affects a consumer’s choice – and just how quickly we make our minds up about a product! Even for products such as these Power Banks, choosing the right colour is vital.
