Window shopping for Rustic Oak furniture

When G and I set up home together, we were 21, newly married, just pregnant and very broke. Thankfully our lovely families came to the rescue and helped us furnish our first home. They made sure we had everything we needed and we were very grateful. Obviously, this meant having lots of things that weren’t necessarily to our taste, and we’ve replaced a few bits of the years here and there. Now we have a bigger house {and a little more money!}, we’ve been replacing/upgrading a few final pieces of furniture. I bought new bedroom furniture for our room when we moved, and finally got the new sofas I’ve been waiting years and years for!

I’ve been wanting a new dining table for a few years, ours is ok… but I’ve long wanted an oak table, I’ve even been asking G to make one but I may be waiting until I’m 80 for that to happen! I came across this gorgeous table from Quercus Living’s Rustic Oak furniture range. It’s a little bigger than our current table {which seats 6}, I really do love the warmth of oak, and I can imagine this table being the perfect hub of our kitchen, large family meals around it, mornings spent working there, the kiddos rolling out biscuit dough….

One thing that is really important to me when we’re replacing furniture is that it is durable and strong. I don’t want to have to replace it again in a hurry, and in a busy family home like ours, everything gets a lot of use – and with 4 kiddos around it needs to withstand a fair bit of rough and tumble! Flimsy furniture would be of no use in my house – so solid wood furniture is a must have for us, this table and chairs looks like it should put up even with Beastie climbing over them and dragging them around.

The one room we {still{} haven’t really done much with since we moved in is the Den… it doesn’t get used that much, guest sleep there, and the girls have sleepovers in it, but day-to-day we only walk through to go to the downstairs bathroom. We have a sofa bed in there, and a TV, and an awful old wardrobe that stores all G’s junk really importnatn things. We’re trying to figure out what to buy furniture wise.. we’re thinking maybe a TV table and a bookshelf or two from the rustic oak furniture range, or maybe a big sideboard {to hide said junk} and then some wall shelves.
