Review | Ironworks, Wrexham

Last week we were invited to go for lunch at the Ironworks –  a town centre pub here in Wrexham. It’s actually right by our old house, they often have family fun days on at Easter, Christmas and Halloween times and the girlies love going to them.

Never one to turn down the chance of not having to cook, we popped in last Friday. It’s perfectly located by the shops in town, so is a great choice for lunch or an early dinner if you’re out and about, especially now doing your Christmas shopping! We arrived around 2pm, just as Beastie woke up from his nap – he was very excited to see some twinkly fairy lights! He spent most of our time there staring at them – well, at least until our food arrived!

There were a few other people eating, but it wasn’t too busy so we had no problem grabbing a table {or two – there are a lot of us!}. The lovely Jess brought us our Menu’s over, explained specials and what they didn’t have {whcih was hardly anything} and took our drink orders. I was really impressed with the menu, there was a great selection of items, which just made it a little tricky to pick what I actually wanted to eat!

I opted for the half roast chicken, which was served with salad, coleslaw and sweet potato fries. I have to admit I’m a sucker for sweet potato fries and these ones were delicious. The portions sizes were really generous, the food looked great but more importantly it tasted fantastic too.

Lola chose the ribs, with salad and chips. She tends to opt for an adult meal these days as she eats easily as much as I do, and she’s pretty adventurous with what she likes to try. She told me they were delicious – and ate every last bite. G ordered a steak – his usual favourite if we go out to eat. All the food was really well presented and although we had a bit of a wait for it to come, you could tell it was because it was freshly made so totally worth hanging on for.

Kiki picked Macaroni Cheese her absolute favourite thing to eat ever, and Baya, well, Baya had fries and Garlic Bread as she’s my picky little eater! But she ate them all up and said they were ‘scrummy’! Vega had some of everyone else’s food – I’m still to find anything he won’t eat.

As I said – everyone was more than happy with their meals, all the food was delicious and there was plenty of it. The service from jess was fabulous as ever. It’s a lovely town centre pub, great to pop in for a quick bite, warm and family friendly which is really important. Some places you don’t feel comfortable in with a family, or don’t feel you can let them have a look around – but Ironworks is really welcoming. There were a few other things on the menu I’d like to try out, and we were so stuffed that we didn’t manage desert so we’ll have to make a return visit soon!

Mine are at the super picky phase of only eating chips! The food sounds great. I thought of you the other day when there was a guy on First Dates from Wrexham! x
