Outdoor Play for Littlies

When we moved house, we finally got rid of the years old plastic sandpit that we had, with the plans to buy the kiddos a new wooden one at some point. So when the folk at Wickey got in touch to ask if we wanted to review one of their sandpits, it seemed like the perfect option!

I loved that the Flip Sand Pit was big enough for two or three kiddos to play in, and that the hinged lid flipped back to make a bench for them to sit on. I also thought it would be great having a ground level sandpit for Vega.

Thankfully, my husband is very handy at making things, as it was pretty complicated to put together. It took him a good couple of days, the instructions aren’t easy to follow, the pieces weren’t all cut to the  right lengths and none of the holes were pre-drilled. The finished item is a great design, I really do love it and I’m sure the kids will next summer. It would be better if the wood was sanded – it’s very rough and has lots of loose bits – not good when little kids are playing/sitting on it as they’ll end up with splinters.

It has no solid base, but comes with a foil sheet to put under to protect the ground. It isn’t waterproof either and has no actual cover – so we will be buying something to cover it with before we fill it up. As it’s so late in the year, it’s actually hard to find playsand right now, and as the weathers so awful, we’ve decided to wait filling it until the spring . Though the kids did have fun playing on it indoors! The design is fantastic, I just think it needs a little more work – and as my husband said, you’re not buying a sandpit – you’re buying a kit to make one from scratch!

It’s a great time to buy now for Christmas gifts so they’re ready for the spring – if we had the space I’d love to get this Climbing Frame too!
