Apps for a busy mama

apps for a new mama

Life with a newborn and three bigger kiddos is {as you can imagine} pretty crazy. There never seems to be enough hours in the day to get everything done, and my to-do list{s} are apparently bottomless. I’m lucky that I work from home, so I can fit in my work around family life.

Thankfully, given it’s the 21st Century, technology means that I can work even when I’m stuck under a nursing baby on the sofa {and given he nurses a lot, that’s a very good thing!}. My tablet has proved to be a life saver this time around, while I love nothing more than nursing and cuddling Vega, sometimes I can use that time to catch up on a little work.

I put together a little list of apps I have on my tablet that I couldn’t live without.

W O R K ~ S T U F F

WORDPRESS APP – While I tend to blog from the laptop, having the app on my tablet means that I can check in on posts if I can’t get to the computer… I can make sure that days post has published, make small edits if needed and generally keep on otp of blog stuff {Note – I’m not a big fan of the app, so I also have a shortcut on my tablet to the web version of wordpress that I tend to use more if I actually have to blog from the tablet}

EVERNOTE – The best ideas always seem to strike when you’re doing something else… evernote means I can write them all down… blog post ideas, notes to myself, articles I want to read later, even what I need to buy at the shops!

GOOGLE DOCS – essential for from the sofa working, I save all my docs I’m working on here so I can access them across all my devices.

PAYPAL – essential for sending invoices, and also checking if I’ve been paid

DROPBOX – again, having files synced across all my devices makes such a difference. Being able to access files or photos when you need them, no matter where you are is such a time saver

OCADO – Online grocery shopping is a lifesaver. I hate visiting the supermarket, esp with four kiddos. Being able to put through an order from the sofa is uh-mazing! {Just be careful not to order when you’re hungry else you’ll add lots of naughty treats to it!!}

INKLY – I have a confesion… i’m pretty darn useless at getting birthday/thankyou/get well cards sent out… if I manage to buy them, they’ll sit in my bag for a week before i remember to go buy a stamp, and then I have to actually put them in a post box… Inkly is great, there are tonnes of really gorgeous cards to pick from for every occasion, you can even upload a photo of a handwritten message that they’ll print inside the card! Then they stamp and mail it straight to the recipient for you! Got to be one of my favourite apps!

MOBILE BANKING – checking if bills have gone out or when they’re going out, transfering funds between accounts, checking you’ve been paid… so useful {and easier than going into the branch!}

AMAZON + EBAY – sofa shopping… slightly dangerous, but great too… watching for bargains on eBay, and picking up essentials or birthday gifts on Amazon, much easier than dragging four kids around the shops.

SKYPE – With our family all spread out, it’s a great way to keep in touch – far better than the phone as they get to see our faces {though I HATE video calling and usually place a small child in front of me ;) }

WHITE NOISE – um… poss the best app ever right now… Vega LOVES white noise. He has a sleep sheep that plays white noise, but this app has proved to be a lifesaver, it chills him out and he loves sleeping with it on {I just have to not pick the rainfall one if he’s nursing else I get stuck on the sofa in need of a wee!}

GUARDIAN APP – perfect for catching up on the news, and far easier to read than trying to hold a giant paper AND a baby

F U N ~ S T U F F

INSTAGRAM – sharing photos and checking in on others, most of my instagramming is done during feeding time

BLOGLOVIN – again, feeding time is about the only chance I get to catch up on blog reading

NETFLIX + BBC IPLAYER- on those long, sleepless nights, catching up on a few shows helps to pass the time

SPOTIFY – I hate a quiet house, so if the girls are busy elsewhere and I’m feeding the baby in the daytime, I’ll often pop some tunes on… the app also allows me to stream it through the Amazon TV box and play it through the TV :)

FACEBOOK + TWITTER – sometimes these class as work for me too, great being able to reply to tweets, publicise new blog posts and have a natter at the same time!

What apps couldn’t you live without?
