Don’t buy her flowers

don't buy her flowerss

Having a baby is hard work… even number four! It take a while to find your new ‘normal’ and in the meantime life can be a little bit stressful. Friends and family visit, laden with endless gifts for the new baby and bunches of flowers for the Mama. Don’t get me wrong, I love having fresh flowers in the house, but after eight bouquets in a week, your house quickly starts to resemble a florists.

After having her first baby, Steph Douglas came up with the idea for ‘Don’t buy her flowers’ – offering thoughtfully put together care packages for new Mama’s.

‘When I had my first baby, I received eight bunches of flowers. We didn’t have a lot of space and we certainly didn’t own multiple vases. I had to give them away or bin the least fresh to make way for the most recent. I also felt completely overwhelmed with everything – the baby, the visitors, the bodily functions – and trying to arrange flowers and then dispose of them was all a bit much, however pathetic that sounds. I found that other parents felt the same and Don’t Buy Her Flowers was born.’

With a newborn to care for, three bigger kiddos to look after, a house and a business to run, my life is a little bit totally crazy. Steph kindly sent me ‘The Care Package‘ – full of lovely treats just for me!! The package came with a copy of Living magazine {you get to pick the magazine}, Luxury Caramel and Cranberry Flapjack, Green Tea with Mint and Everyday Brew Tea, some Triple Choc Brownie Truffles and a large printed scarf. A gift like this is so amazing to receive as a new mum… giving you the perfect excuse to escape to the bath for ten minutes of peace and pampering!

As well as a new mama gift, this would make a great gift come Mothers Day for any Mama, after all, we work so hard 365 days of the year I think all Mama’s deserve a little bit of TLC don’t they?!

You can see the Don’t buy her flowers website here and the sisterhood blog here.

Would you have liked to receive a gift like this as a new mama?

oh yes, this is a fantastic gift! Waaaay better than flowers — as you said, I love fresh flowers, but one bunch is plenty.

I love this idea! Brilliant. Bookmarking it.

I’m due in a couple of weeks and that flapjack looks like the perfect gift!! Much prefer edibles over flowers!

Definitely better than flowers – so with you on the vase situation! A magazine, cuppa and a bath would have been perfect – I hope you did that yourself :)

What a great idea! I love flowers, but I think even I would find arranging 8 bouquets with a new baby, stressful.

I saw this a while ago and thought it was such a good idea! I do love flowers, but when you’ve got a little baby to look after you definitely don’t want to think about keeping something else alive! Plus those snacks look so tempting!

You say ‘even number four’ as though people might be reading and thinking that having four children is easy!! That made me smile :-)

Ah I love this idea. I mean, I love flowers, but I never ever get to read magazines so that would be a real treat for me x
