Christmas Traditions

One of the things that makes Christmas so special, is the traditions we build up around them. They’re the things that make the memories that we will remember all of our life. Funny or serious, brand new, or generations old. Here are some of my Christmas traditions.

P A S T
* In the run up to Christmas, I’d always make a collage of all the things that I would like for Christmas from various store catalogues. I’d leave it out on Christmas Eve for Santa, with his mince pie and rum!
* On Christmas Mornings, I remember waking up super early and sitting with my brother on his bed, feeling all the presents in our sacks, trying to figure out what they were before we woke our parents up.
* I always watched Annie – every single year, it was the one film that made it ‘feel’ like Christmas for me.
* We had a ‘tea-time’ present – one present that sat under the tree, and we couldn’t open until Christmas Evening.

* Christmas Eve Box – a fairly new-to-us tradition, but one that I really love! I fill a box with new PJ’s for the kiddos, a Christmas DVD, some snacks and hot chocolate. I wrap it all up and the kiddos get to open it after dinner on Christmas Eve – they get so excited!
* Boxing Day walk – the last few years, we’ve gone for a walk to our local National trust house, then come home to watch Christmas TV and eat lots of scrummy foods.
* Creating our own advent calendar. While we’re not religious, I like to ensure that the focus through this season isn’t entirely on gifts. I fill 24 envelopes with different activities for the girls to do in the run up to Christmas.

I love your Christmas eve box.

My traditions involve having croissants on Christmas morning, watching A Sound Of Music or It’s a Wonderful Life on TV (or both) and having a walk on Christmas morning down to the beach and seeing the Christmas morning swim.

I don’t really have any Christmas traditions, I guess because its just me and the other half – I really want to start some though as it seems naughty to have none. x

Thanks for giving me the idea of watching Annie, my eldest will love it! We have lots of traditions – PJs on Christmas Eve is a fave, and the Elf On A Shelf has worked its way in now too… :/

The Christmas Eve box is a lovely idea, I do like that. We leave out a mince pie, a glass of sherry and some carrots on a small table by the fire place for Father Christmas. In the morning there are only crumbs and the carrot tops left!

I really want to start some proper Xmas traditions, we did the pyjamas and Xmas movie with popcorn on Xmas eve this year before sprinkling out reindeer food which the kids loved so we will def do that in future. I can remember my parents always drinking champagne on Xmas morning and eating smoked salmon and playing lots of board games, these are all things that Matt doesn’t like and it’s not much fun to do them on your own! I am about to buy a game of Monopoly to convert him though ;) x

We always have a long family walk, most years we will try to local woodland and walk for hours picking gifts of nature

Love reading about other people’s Christmas traditions! They’re always so much fun, aren’t they? We do new pyjamas all round, and I have to watch the Gavin and Stacey Christmas special :-) x

When I was younger we always watched The Snowman religously, and then when I was a bit older we added National Lampoons Christmas Vacation in as well, which has stuck with me to the ripe old age of 31!
