Book Love: What I’ve been reading

Since I’ve been pregnant, I’ve been reading so much! I go through phases of reading for hours every night, or not at all. I’ve been making myself go to bed earlier each night, supposedly to get some extra sleep, but I somehow end up reading into the early hours every night! I may have to hide all my books and kindle at this rate! Here’s some of what I’ve been reading lately…

what I've been reading

* Tove Jannson – Life, Art, Words. I’m a huge Moomins fan, and have read some other stories that Tove Jannson wrote. G just bought me this as my anniversary gift, and I really enjoyed reading it. A fascinating insight into her life – you should definitely read this!

* The Age of Miracles. A coming of age/end of the world novel. I was a little unsure after reading the back, but it really pulled me in and kept my attention.

* The Woman who Went to Bed for a Year. Well, the whole idea of staying in bed for a year was enough for me to pick this up! It turned out to be a really funny story about what happens when you stop being who everyone expects you to be.

* Why French Children Don’t Talk Back. This popped up in my recommendations after reading ‘French Children Don’t Throw Food’. It tells the story of an American family and their adventures into french style parenting. An interesting read, really a common-sense approach to parenting.

* Bébé Gourmet I picked this up, and while I won’t need it for a few more months yet, I enjoyed drooling over all the recipes! We tend to do a mixture of BLW and purées and the recipes in this book sound good enough to tempt any baby!

I’ve got several books by my bed waiting to be read but I don’t seem to have the time to read as I used to. I love historical biographies and sci/fi fantasy but am not a fan of chic lit.

I only seem to read cycling books these days but then I’m rarely in bed before midnight. My husband brought home ‘England’s Lane’ by Joseph Connolly yesterday from the library. It’s about a row of shopkeepers in the 1950s.

I’m reading ‘The Devil in the Marshalsea’ by Antonia Hodgson and loving it. I started a book club last month too, and was really chuffed when six people came. Reading is good for the soul.

Is it really sad to admit I’ve not had time to pick up a book in over 2 years :(

I’m intrigued by that Tove Jansson book and I’d like to read the Sue Townsend – sad to think she’s no longer around. Thanks for sharing!

A diverse selection here! I never seem to have time for reading and it baffles me how others read loads of books… my boss is the same, always reading as well as having 5 kids and two businesses – how the bloody hell?!!!! lol Still it’s nice that you make time for this before baby arrives! I really should make time to read x

I don’t remember when I read a book last time and I should be buying some more for long autumn evenings :) Can’t wait to cuddle up in nice cosy blanket with lots of candles around and warm cuppa of hot chocolate :)

I’m reading Mr Mercedes by Stephen King at the moment. I used to read Stephen King all the time but haven’t read any for ages as I went off him. I’m really enjoying this one though :)
