Summer Living

Happy Saturday Friends! It’s another beautiful sunny day here, we’re ready for a busy weekend after a lovely relaxing day yesterday at our home school group catching up with friends. I was in the garden on Thursday, pottering around, kiddos playing, chickens pecking at my feet. The sun was shining and the birds were chirping. Life in that moment was perfect. What a difference the sun and warmer weather makes. I feel more alive when the sky is blue, more inclined to hop out of bed first thing in the morning, more motivated to do anything.

Life feels so much easier in the summer time. The doors and windows are open wide, and our garden becomes an extension of the house giving us so much more space. The cabin fever we all had by the end of the winter has left – space to do our own thing and not all be crammed in a couple of rooms together day in, day out, mean tempers are improved and arguments less {less, not gone altogether!}

Food tastes so much more delicious when it’s eaten outdoors, even more so when it’s freshly picked from the garden just in time for dinner. Looking out of the window and seeing a rainbow of colours instead of grey and brown always makes me feel cheery. I love the smell of a freshly cut lawn and the feel of earth between my fingers.

I’d love to live in a year-long season of summer…. but perhaps we need those long, cold winters to fully appreciate the beauty of summer?

    Completely agree – everything is about ten times lovelier in summer, isn’t it? Especially when everyone’s cheerful instead of miserable about the weather :-) So nice to be able to eat outside, too, it’s one of the things we’re really enjoying about our new garden.

    Oh wow what a moment of perfection and I totally agree with food tasting so much better eaten outdoors :)

    i totally agree that things seem easier when the weather is nicer. life here isn’t too good at the moment, but the fact the weather is nicer eases the blow a teeny tiny bit!
