The Sunchildren – CLOSED

Summer solstice is almost upon us, it’s always been one of my favourite Sabbats. Marking the beginning of summer, the end of a long, cold winter and the start of longer, sunnier days. It’s the time of year when the crops are growing and the earth has warmed up. We spend long afternoons enjoying the outdoors, and getting back to nature under the long daylight hours. We always celebrate the Summer Solstice as a family, the girls look forward to it every year. Usually we have a fire, bbq, bake some sun bread, make lemonade and spend the day welcoming in the sun.

We were excited to receive a copy of this great new book about the Summer Solstice to review. Aimed at the whole family, ‘The Sunchildren‘ is about the sunchildren who live in the forest. These special children anticipate the change of each season. We meet them as they celebrate the beginning of summer and watch as they show thanks in their own creative ways.

We all loved this book. Full of beautiful and bright illustrations that bring the story to life, The Sunchildren appeals to kiddos of all ages. There are so many ideas for different ways to celebrate the summer solstice, you’ll be full of inspiration after reading. We most of all loved the section at the back to record your families ways of celebrating the solstice.

as a family we throw a feast for everyone that we know with lots of food like fruit, salad etc. We always decorate the house and table with Green Man style designs too. As an individual I wander outside for a walk either along my local canal if I’m not very mobile or I travel over to Sherwood to wander among the trees to be closer to the root of me

We celebrate by eating a seasonal dinner outside, followed by an evening walk around our local reservoir. Spending the evening outside is always such a treat!

Oh what a lovely giveaway, have entered so fingers and toes crossed. We like to celebrate it out in the garden, up a little later than normal, watching the bats fly over and all the little creatures come out.

We haven’t really celebrated this in the past. Maybe we could use the book to create new traditions.

would love to say we would spend it in the sun, but as I live in Scotland and we can go from sun to snow in one day I really have no idea how we will spend it. Praying for the sun to eventually come out! lol
