Outspiration App
Since Spring arrived, we’ve been spending a lot more time outdoors, playing, eating and living in the garden for a big part of each day. We’re lucky enough to have a large garden, and while most of it has had a makeover since we’ve lived here, the one part that has been neglected until now was our little patio. Tucked around the side of the conservatory we haven’t really used it very much. However, the new lawn that I laid last year, was a little worse for wear after the heavy rain all winter, so I wanted to movie the sandpit and patio table off the lawn so that it could recover a little before the summer and we really need to be on the lawn.
Over the winter, the patio became our ‘wood chopping area’ and general dumping ground so it wasn’t a pretty sight. With the sun making an appearance at long last, I was excited to be able to get outside and spruce it up! We downloaded the new Outspiration app, in the hope that it would outspire us to get a move on and make the patio into a lovely space to sit and eat outdoors.
The new app aims to motivate and inspire you to makeover your garden. With a weather forecast built into the app, it’s easy to see if it’s going to be the right conditions to get outside – even if it’s cold you can still get out there and get busy! You can also browse projects that other users have saved to give you a dose of inspiration if you’re unsure of how to makeover your outdoor space.
After checking the weather and seeing I had a lovely sunny day ahead of me, I took myself outdoors and cleaned off the patio. Moved all the leftover wood, brushed off the dust and the leaves, and pulled out a few weeds. With a clear space, it was easier to imagine it as a useable patio once again. The girls sandpit and our patio table and chairs on their, all it needed was some colour.
Having a handyman for a husband comes in useful in these occasions! I set him to work building me a new planter to stand by the sandpit. Once he had finished it, I took a photo in the app, and used the in-built Visualiser to play around and see what it would look like if I painted it a different colour.
My next purchase for our patio will be a patio heater, so we can make more use of the patio, even when the weather is cooler. I’ll be checking out this patio heaters guide by Globo Surf to see which is the best one to buy.
In the end, much to the girls annoyance, I opted to leave it natural, but being able to see what it would look like before you paint it is such a great tool to have, we had a lot of fun playing with this!
We filled the new planter with some tomato plants, I love growing our own food, and the girls love picking it. Plus having cherry tomatoes by the patio table means we can have them straight from the plant to our plate.

May 4, 2014 at 09:09I love that planter. I never thought to get the husband to make me a planter, I always go out and buy them. We have a huge wood pile that he saves in case he needs any wood so I think I’m going to put him to work!
