How my garden grows

IMG_6905

There’s nothing quite like seeing your garden coming back to life after a long winter. Although to be fair, this winter was so mild, one of my fuscia bushes flowered all winter long! Looking out of the windows through the winter, I was faced with a sea of brown and grey. A lawn that seemed to have turned into a mudbath, flower pots and borders that were just compost, and a grey sky. Not the prettiest view when I’m washing up! Thankfully, the past few weeks, that’s slowly begun to change. The grass has decided to grow again, I overseeded it, and now the patches are filling in, and it’s looking more green than brown {as long as you don’t look too closely}. The seedlings we planted indoors are starting to sprout, and so are the things we sowed straight outdoors – salad leaves, spinach, and radishes are all showing their heads above the soil. The onions are in, and the other beds have been dug over and fed ready for their crops.

The trees are in blossom, the camellia are out and at last there is colour in our garden! Last years strawberry plants are starting to grow again and everything is beginning to look so much better! I love my garden in summer, in full bloom it makes for the perfect place to spend our days. The kiddos have most all they need – swings, a trampoline, sandpit, watertray, climbing frame & slide, a mudpit and lots of space to run about.

I’m looking forward to garden picnics, summer BBQ’s, outdoor crafting and reading in the sun!

I can’t wait for our flowers to arrive! We’re still waiting for the rest of the snow to melt off, but it’s well on the way to being gone. We’ve done lots of planting indoors in pots, and started some broccoli and tomato seedlings for the garden. So many sprouts are up already!

Ah, your garden looks so lovely! How long have you lived in your house for? And do you have any tips? We moved from a flat to a house plus garden just before Christmas. Although our new garden is nice, it’s not really suitable for a toddler so I’m trying to gradually turn it round (have to admit, it’s more fun than I’d expected).

We’ve lived here for four and a half years. When we moved in, the top garden was waist height in weeds, and we couldn’t even open the gate that goes into the bottom half. It’s taken lots and lots of work to get it how it is. We had woodchip down for the first three and a half years on the top section to kill off all the weeds, last year I had to rake it all off, and dig it over so I could lay a lawn! Lots of work but lots of fun too seeing how much it’s come on!

Oh if only Spring would hurry up where I am. Our forecast for tonight has a chance of snow!! It’s been such a long winter here and I so wish for bright flowers like these and green in the trees and shrubs. Loving seeing all your green and colors out!
