What does motherhood mean to you?
It is all encompassing, completely overwhelming and truly amazing. Pre-motherhood I knew all sorts of things. I knew I’d love my baby, I’d knew I’d sacrifice everything for their safe-keeping. I knew I desperately wanted to be a mother. However, until I held my little boy, I had no idea what those things really meant.

How has motherhood changed you?
It has changed me completely, I have become a much less selfish person with the people and world around me. I seemed to have switched into care mode, and want to do more to take care of those around me. I know feel like I am doing what I was always meant to do.

What is the hardest part of motherhood?
It is such an emotional rollercoaster. you swing from pure and immense joy, to utter terror and guilt about whether you are doing the best for your child. There is no question that the joy and love outweighs anything negative, but my gosh, it’s hard.

What is the biggest joy your children have given you?
His company. I really enjoy his company. Everyday he makes me belly laugh, and does something to astound me. He makes me so very proud. I find that almost daily I look at my boisterous, confident, cheeky little boy and am amazed that I made him. I feel absolutely blessed that I get to spend everyday with him and watch as he grows and develops.

What one piece of advice would you give to a first time mother?
Trust your instincts. If something doesn’t feel right, then it probably isn’t right for you. It’s completely overwhelming to have a baby, and so I definitely advocate asking advice from anyone you need too, but as there is no magic ‘right’ way to raise a baby you must follow your own path. At the end of the day as long as your child is happy, healthy and well loved it doesn’t matter which path you took.
