Living Life Your Way….Interview with Sherry Youngblood Marrero

I’ve been working hard the last few months at overcoming my fears and following my dreams. So I’m running a series of interview with inspiring people to see what part fear has played in their life and how they’ve overcome it to live life their way…

Hey! Tell us a little about yourself.
I am 39 year (young) mama! I have 2 boys ages 21 and 15. I have been married for almost 20 years to my high school sweetheart. I run anniescupboards.com. I am a crafty gal who loves shopping for vintage in thrifty shops.

Is the life you lead now the life you’ve always dreamt of?
To be honest. No. When I was younger I thought I would be a stage performer or a makeup artist. I liked doing both. I had no idea I would quit my 9-5 blah office job and work at home and selling creative goodies I handmake.

When you have faced difficulties, what has been your inspiration to keep going?
Prayer. My friends. My husband. Strangers in fact. Other people who went through difficult times. Even if it was not the same ordeal as me. Just listening to someone else’s story or problem really makes you think about yours. Eventually you have to examine the situation you are in. You either deal with it or you hold on to it. Holding on does not get you anywhere. Your just placing on a shelf for later. I grew up in an abusive home. I have faced many difficult days and long nights. Hope always kept me going. I never lost hope for something better. I held on to it.

Fear affects us all at some point. What part has fear played in your life and how have you overcome it?
Growing up in an abusive home led to me having many fears. I eventually had to shut off the what if’s and start living each day in the present. I could not change the past and what happened. Only time and love will can ease that fear. For me the fear ended when I actually started living. Living my life the way I wanted to. Doing the things I wanted to do. Knowing that I am in control. Letting go of what once was but fully closing the door. Sometimes I peek back in once in a while and when I do, I see how much stronger I have become but I never stay and I never leave the door open.

What advice would you offer on following your heart and living your dreams?

No one is living your life but you. Only you know what it takes to make that smile appear on your face. You need to go after your happiness as if you needed it to breathe. You cant live for someone else or in someones shadow. Don’t push your dreams to the side or say maybe one day. That day is now. Right at this moment. Make each moment in your life an event to remember. Not one to forget.

What do you think are the three most important things you need to lead a happy and radiant life?

compassion
creativity
love
