My top ten Pregnancy Essentials

I hit the twenty-six week marker this week, and now I’m well over halfway into this fifth pregnancy I thought I’d share a few of my pregnancy essentials. Pregnancy can be tough – physically and emotionally, growing a whole new person isn’t an easy task! This time around, with four other kiddos to look after all on my own, I’m really feeling the effects of being pregnant. Plus, I’m older again this pregnancy – my first pregnancy was at 22, 16 years later it certainly feels like harder work having a baby! Aside from getting lots of rest, these are my pregnancy essentials. I’ve learned to be extra kind to myself. In the first trimester, I NEEDED naps. I was so tired, and sick feeling, that some days a nap really was essential. Growing another life is no easy task, so let your body rest up as much as you can.

My essentials are a mix of items to keep me physically healthy, keep me comfortable and give me a little pampering too!

Keep it Healthy

Spatone ~ My number one essential – I’ve taken it throughout all my pregnancies, and it’s always kept my iron levels right where they should be. I take two sachets a day when I’m pregnant, and it makes such a difference

Prenatal Vitamins – a good multivitamin is essential to make sure your body is getting all it needs. I take a good quality vegan one, every single day.

Water ~ so vital to drink enough H2O every day, dehydration is no joke.

Yoga – the best exercise for pregnancy I think – there are so many free workouts specifically for pregnant women on YouTube if you can’t make it to a class too.

Keep it Comfortable

Maternity Pillow ~ honestly, mine is a lifesaver! once that belly starts to grow, it can get harder to get comfortable at night – this Theraline pillow really does make a big difference to how well I sleep.

Leggings – I tend to live in leggings when pregnant {or harem pants}, I’m all about comfort! These fab maternity ones from LoveLeggings are so comfortable, with an over the bump design.

Long Vests ~ I don’t tend to buy maternity wear, preferring to live in leggings and t-shirts! I do love me some vest tops – these longer length ones cover all of the bumps, and are perfect for layering.

Underwear – I’m sure I’m not the only pregnant Mama who has occasionally tried to avoid sneezing for fear of, ahem, having a little accident. I recently discovered Cheeky Wipes period pants and they are a game changer! They have 4 layers for extra absorbency and are perfect for catching those pregnancy accidents!

Keep it Looking Good

Moisturising Oil ~ I’ve been using this Rosehip Oil from Pure Potions on my belly to help prevent stretch marks, I’ve also been using it on my face after cleansing at night as my skin was dry, yet also spotty and it has made a huge difference!

Lush Bath Bombs – at the end of a day, when my back aches and so does the rest of my body, nothing beats a good soak in a hot bath. It’s a lifesaver! Some mornings when I wake up stiff and with achy hips, it’s the only way to start the day too! I love me a bit of Lush – and one of their bath bombs thrown in a bath is perfect for some TLC
