Gin and tonic doesn’t discriminate: it’s a great drink for any weather and any hour of the day. With a bank holiday on the horizon, it’s time to start thinking about ways you can pimp your drink and give your weekend a refreshing feeling. We’ve teamed up with Popaball for this list of 5 ways to pimp your gin and tonic this weekend.

Break free of lime

When most people think of putting fruit in their gin and tonic, they’ll think of a juicy slice of lime, usually one wedged over the side of the glass. Now, there’s nothing wrong with adding a hint of lime to your drink, but you’d be skipping over dozens of other fruity combinations.

Lemon, strawberry, and cucumber are only three of the tasty ideas you could try out for yourself. Lime shouldn’t just be ignored, though: try mixing in some other fruit, too, and you’ll get a drink that’s exploding with natural flavours.

Branch out from fruit

Fruit isn’t the only way to flavour your drink, and that doesn’t just mean pouring in some juice. Some like rosemary or a bit of black pepper can transform your gin into something completely new, something that you won’t get from many off-the-shelf cocktails.

If you find a combination you like, you could even start calling it your “signature style” – you’ll be able to leave a tasty, refreshing mark on any parties you’re spending your weekend at.

Pair something with your cocktail

Gin and tonic can go down well at any point in the day, but you don’t have to drink it all on its own. if it’s late in the evening and you’re still a bit hungry, why not have it with some cheese and crackers or a bowl of fruit? If the two flavours end up working together, you can re-use the idea as a great party spread for your close friends to enjoy.

Think outside the glass

A drink’s only as good as the glass you’re drinking it from, so don’t be afraid to switch things up before the weekend starts! Not everybody prefers their gin and tonic in a lowball style: champagne and Irish coffee glasses completely change how you hold your cocktail, whereas martini and hurricane glasses change the way you drink it.

You’ll be able to hold different amounts in different glass types, too, so a smaller glass can give you two or three “drinks” from the same amount of gin. This can be a great chance to experiment and try new flavours without risking your whole stash of gin at once!

Treat yourself to a bundle of accessories

If you’re still struggling to make your gin truly unique, why not look into a proper set of extras and drink accessories? Some companies have entire product lines of gin gifts ready for you to pick up and break out at any time, ranging from bubbles and shimmer powder to fizzy gummies and custom-flavoured tonic water!

Whether you’re hosting a party or having a quiet even by yourself, a few high-class accessories here and there can turn your night (and your drink) from good to great.
