Plan a (Relatively) Stress-Free House Move in Three Easy Steps

moving house

Whether you are a homeowner or a renter, for whatever reasons the time will come where you need to move home again. You probably think back to your last house move, and the thought might just fill you with dread. The gathering up of cardboard boxes and the brown packing tape will soon start to emerge. The main thing is, though; don’t despair! There is hope to have a relatively stress-free house move.

First Step – Choosing a Mover

The main things that this will depend upon is your budget and how far you will have to travel. If the move is relatively straightforward, it might be the case that you will move yourself. Moving from a rented furnished house to another rented furnished house is when you might do that. You only have your belongings to move, rather than furniture as well. If you are uneasy about hiring and driving a large van, then it might be preferred to have someone else do the legwork. Equally, if you are moving quite far away, it can be a lot less stressful to have someone else do all of the van driving.

There are options with movers too; they can pack your things up and load the van or you can. The cost obviously does vary, so refer back to that pesky budget and see what will work best for you. When looking at quotes, somewhere like Shiply is a good place to start. Be sure to get a few quotes, though. Around three is a good place to start and check that you aren’t being ripped off.

Second Step – Get Everything You Need For Packing

In the lead up to the move, you will need to get everything sorted and packed up, whether you’re doing it or someone else. So you need to make sure that you have plenty of things i to help. Cardboard boxes and packing tape are the obvious choices. Labelling your boxes is so important too. Putting what room it belongs in on the box will make unpacking much less stressful. What often gets forgotten about when packing is things like bubble wrap and newspaper for delicate things. You don’t want to pack up plates and bowls loosely in a box. Little plastic freezer bags are a great idea for furniture too. Putting screws and bolts in a bag that can be taped to the furniture is an easy way to keep everything together. It makes things much easier when it comes to putting it all back together.

Step Three – Have a Day Bag on Moving Day

To make the actual moving day go with relative ease, it is a good idea to have some essentials with you. Having things for the kids like wipes is always a good idea. Some toilet roll and light bulbs are pretty essential to have handy too. You never know what will have been left behind when you move to a new home. Bin liners are good too, as you start to unpack. Having somewhere to put the rubbish is handy and keeps things organised.
