Top 3 Fun Rainy Day Activities to Enjoy With Children

Are you stuck inside on a rainy day? Just because it is raining does not mean your children’s day has to be boring. Curling up under your covers might seem a more effortless thing to do, but there are several other things you can do to seize the day.

Children get bored on rainy days more frequently and easily than adults. However, you can try these fun activities to enjoy with your children when it’s raining outside.

You can also try some of these activities with your friends who do not hesitate to bring out their inner child.

  1. Stay Inside and Play Board Games

Board games are a great way to entertain and educate your kids simultaneously. Several board game categories are available, like word games, war games, strategy games, matching pictures, drawing sketches, and whatnot. You can pick any type as per your kids’ interests.

My favorite categories are drawing board and word games because drawing games bring out the artistic side, and word games exercise their brains and entertainingly enrich their vocab.

  1. Word Games

Word games like Scrabble, Boggle, Anagram, Crosswords, and more can also beat boredom, especially on a rainy day. Wordles can be interesting options too, but they do not last long.

On the other hand, games like Scrabble can last for an eternity, which bores the kids. You might want to take the help of a word tool that can fasten up the process of solving words or phrases.

You can use these tools to find words with conditions like four-letter words, words without vowels, words with specific letters, and more. You can make anagrams, word games, crosswords, and similar games much easier to play. You can also use these tools to play against your friends to make the game more entertaining. Using these tools, you can beat your friends effortlessly while playing Scrabble or other similar games.

  1. Disney Sketchy Tales

I prefer Disney Sketchy Tales for drawing because kids’ love for Mickey Mouse never ends. Disney Sketchy Tales is like a Pictionary meeting telephone but with an additional dose of Mickey Mouse.

This game aims to create the funniest stories as players start drawing a random character doing random activities as given in the cards. The results come hilarious every time because of an infinite number of combinations and creative ideas.

You can get a story related to anything like Rapunzel getting scared by ghosts, Sully (Mosters Inc.) chased by penguins and more. After it, the player will pass this picture to the next participant without revealing the inspiration behind it.

After passing the picture, the next participant will have to write about what they think is happening for the next participant to draw, and so on. This picture will come back to you after all players write what they thought was happening in the picture. The player who drew that picture will then give the points to the most amusing answer.

This game might not be much of a cooperative board game, but the overall process is very collaborative. You can see this list of cooperative board games if your children prefer them.

Disney Sketchy Tales does not require artistic talent. This game can become funnier if you lack artistic or creative skills. It will make the game harder for other players, making the answers funnier and unexpected.

2. Go on a Rainy Day Walk

Most children love to walk or play outside on a rainy day, but that is not the case with adults. You might want to go out and enjoy the rain if the weather allows you to. Skip getting wet on a rainy day in the winter.

However, on other occasions, let your kids jump in the puddles, walk and slide on slippery sidewalks, follow the water, and do more activities. You can also ask them to make paper boats and let them flow in the water. Make sure to use an umbrella, bed sheet, or anything to cover the paper boat.

3.  Paper Plane Contest

Let your kids design paper airplanes and compete to see which one flies the farthest. Let them put their STEM and Youtube skills to the test. Competition always pushes the children to think outside the box.

It does not require a lot of material and prep time. You can start the contest with paper sheets and give all the participants the freedom to find and use many materials around the house.

Wrapping Up

You can do more activities like making a fortress, playing hide and seek, cooking together, and more. I prefer these three activities because the children around me love to be creative and artistic.

Cooking, dancing, or singing together can also be effective. These activities can change the future of your kids. They can be the next rockstar in any field if they start young.
